It was a wonderful privilege having Susan and Ralph as neighbors. They always had ready smiles available, and never seemed to meet a stranger. Everyone in our neighborhood still refers to their home as "Susan and Ralph's house." We still miss them both.

Remembering Ralph today and all the great meals he shared with me and my family in Cary and the beach! I especially remember his okra and shrimp. Miss you Ralph!

Ralph and Susan always opened the door to me, my husband Bob, and kids, Tracie and Neil. Loving, kind, and super hospitable they both were to us no matter when. Ralph made sure he showed me the proper southern way to cook okra, clean and cook fresh Atlantic shrimp, slice country ham, and other wonderful fresh items. Ralph shared his love for family with us, love of Oak Island, and his great and wonderful grandchildren. He wanted me to learn how to invest. No one could match his skill and patience. He loved Violet's and made sure each spring he had only the best violet colored ones in his yard. He loved to share his love for French and I, with only limited memory of school French classes enjoyed each word. He truly loved family, friends, and memories. I am thankful to have spent time getting to know and enjoy the entire "Hawkins" clan to include meeting several of his sisters. I had the pleasure of walking the grandkids to school with Susan. I was smitten by Christopher playing the piano and guitar with just us two there at a moment I value! Ralph, your time here was well spent!

Ralph was an amazing man who was warm loving and welcoming. His family has been blessed to have had him for so long. May Gods peace comfort and love be felt by all of his family and friends. He will be missed but allow your memories to help fill the emptiness that you feel. May God bless all of you. Love you all

I remember RO as a quiet, gentle, articulate man who was always concerned about his fellow man. Prayers for the family, but he is now sharing his Heavenly rewards.
