I had the pleasure of meeting Ed in Athens in 2014 during one of his later research trips to Greece. The other fellows and I loved spending time talking with Ed during dinner and at the Saloni of the American School, where he would often be found during tea time each afternoon after a hard day of work in the library. Ed was very generous with his time and it was easy to lose several hours in conversation with him, even if you had to occasionally lean in close to hear his hushed voice. One of my favorite memories with him was a quiet fish dinner with him at a nearby taverna -- he insisted on trying the special and he wasn't wrong to do so. It was one of the best meals I've had in a long time, but that had less to do with the food and much more to do with his company. I wish we could have crossed paths again in the states but I will cherish the time I got to spend with him. What an incredible life he lived. We were lucky to spend some of that with him.

My sincere condolences to the family. It is a blessing Edwin lived a long life. He reminds me of Psalms 90:10, an especially strong individual.
