Harris I. "Hank" Stern

STERN Harris I. March 27, 2026, age 97. Harris "Hank" was a devoted husband, first to Harriet Asher for fourteen years before her untimely passing and later sharing fifty four joyful years of marriage with Gerrie Seltzer Tellem, who predeceased him in 2022. Beloved father of Jamisen Shrut (Barry), Arn Tellem (Nancy), Rhonda Sacks (Jeffrey), and Pamela Goldman (Andrew). Brother of the late Louise Shanis (Joseph). Loving grandfather of Kimberly, Philip, Michael (Emma), Matthew (Rachel), Eric (Emily), Jonathan (Jenny), Allison (Sammy), Ellissa, Sophie, and Hope; and cherished great grandfather of Theo, Olive, Shea, Madeline, Gemma, Lea, Asher, and Mara. Born April 27, 1928, Harris was a graduate of George School and Haverford College, where he was a member of the undefeated 1950 tennis team. He studied abroad in Oslo, Norway, and spent his professional life leading Stern and Company, the family department store founded by his grandfather in downtown Philadelphia. Under his leadership, the business expanded to 28 locations throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and Delaware before his retirement in 1991. A lifelong philanthropist, Harris devoted his retirement to charitable fundraising, particularly for Moss Rehabilitation Institute and Hahnemann Hospital's Likoff Cardiovascular Institute.
