Thomas J. McCARRON Obituary

McCARRON Thomas J. Aug. 16, 1949 to Mar. 12, 2026 Tom died suddenly on March 12, 2026 at home in Philadelphia of heart failure. A Philly native, he was born to the late Albert and Joan McCarron (née Broadhurst). He earned a B.A. in English (minor in French) from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Management from Columbia University, and an M.S. in Pharmaceutical Research from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. A Renaissance man, Tom had a wide range of jobs and interests. He taught at the Moorestown Friends School, headed the Human Relations Department at Trenton State University, and served as an Instructor at West Chester University, the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, and Community College of Philadelphia. In his final two decades of employment, he was a biostatistician for a series of Pharmaceutical Companies and Clinical Research Organizations. He made presentations before the CDC on the efficacy of drugs whose manufacturers were seeking approval. Tom also had a love of Art History and became an expert on Philadelphia architecture, giving memorable neighborhood tours. He loved French literature and was active in a French book club. Through the gay community he met Richard Keiser, who became his life partner and spouse for 43 years. Besides Richard, survivors include siblings Douglas V. McCarron of Michigan, Joy Groth (née McCarron) of Indiana, and Laurie Burras of Philadelphia. Many nieces and nephews also survive. His interment at the Woodlands Cemetery was private, but a celebration of his life will be held later.
