Steve was one of my best friends growing up in Lorne Park, Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. I recently found out about his death and hit me really hard. We experienced so many great times. Steve loved cars, weather it was his blue Volkswagen beetle, his mother's mercury Cougar or his Porsche he bought. We would get in the Volkswagen, plug in the Beach Boys 8 track tape and cruise all of the familiar streets. We spent a lot of fun times together and We hadn't seen each other in years but somehow I still felt close to him. My sincere condolences to his wife Kevin who I only met one time. Dwight Taylor

Chris Wlison put it best in his message to Kevin and family. I echo that message. Steve and I flew in the same airspace for many years during my Chopper 11 days (12 years), including WPVI in Philly, Pittsburgh and NC. I had the honor of his friendship, his sharing his knowledge, and the many hours we spent together in his office at RDU. Rest in peace my friend, the best.

I worked with Steve when He first joined the Sky 5 Team in the late 80's. He was a skilled and talented pilot as well as a genuinely good man. The world is a poorer place without him.

Steve was a true professional, and great friend. I miss our times up flying over the same scenes, conferring about the crummy weather, or grousing about the news game. I always had and always will have the utmost respect for him as a pilot and as a fine human being. My deepest condolences to you Kevin, to the WRAL family, and to the aviation community. We lost one of the greats.
