Annie Ferguson Obituary

Annie Ferguson
October 24, 1932 - February 18, 2021
Cary, North Carolina - Annie Cabe "Ann" Ferguson, 88, of Cary, and formerly of Charlotte, died February 18, 2021, after a brief non-COVID-related illness. Born in the Savannah community of Jackson County on October 24, 1932, Ann was the daughter of the late James Edgar Cabe and Della Alberta Rhinehart Cabe. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Ferguson Medlin and husband Keith of Cary; two grandchildren, Laura Hope Medlin of Cary, and Rachel Caroline Medlin, of Raleigh; sisters, Shirley C. Maxwell Spence and husband O.K. of Indian Trail, and Brittie C. Duncan of Spruce Pine; and 15 nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ann was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Floyd Mack Ferguson, Jr.; sister Jean C. Turpin Daughenbaugh; brothers Charles Cabe and Glenn Cabe; sisters-in-law Nettie F. Hurd, Dorothy F. Rorie, June F. Hunsucker Blackwell, and Ruth F. Surratt; and brother-in-law Rev. Billy L. Ferguson.
Ann graduated in 1951 from Webster High School, where she was class valedictorian, newspaper editor, and basketball star. She began her career as a secretary at Hudson's Department Store in Detroit, before settling in Charlotte, where she was secretary to the president of Bridges Furniture Co. and a pension and benefits specialist at Belk Stores Services until she retired in 1993.
Ann met her husband Floyd when he returned to Charlotte in the early 1950s after serving in the U.S. Army. A romance blossomed and they married on February 11, 1955. Endlessly creative, she was a talented hostess, cook, artist, and writer. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and needlework, and gardened well into her eighties. A lifelong learner, she was an avid reader, student of current events, and unofficial family historian until the very end of her life.
A longtime member of Midwood Baptist Church, Ann served most recently as church clerk, mission projects chair of the Women's Missionary Union, and Joy Workers Sunday School class teacher. She was a member of Bible Study Fellowship, served on the board of Baptist Metrolina Ministries, and worked as a local precinct judge until her mid-eighties, never missing an election. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Ann's greatest joys were serving Christ and spending time with her many loved ones—if not in person, then through extensive correspondence.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte on Saturday February 27, with Dr. Garry Baldwin officiating. Memorials may be made to Midwood Baptist Church, 2029 Mecklenburg Ave., Charlotte, NC 28205. Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park.

I knew Ann through WMU, I will so miss her gentle spirit. She was dedicated to the Lord, who I know she is with now, forever rejoicing.

Jennifer, I am sorry to hear of your loss. Ann & I have been friends for a long time. I talked with her about a week before she passed. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Ann would always call to ask about how my grandmother Estelle was doing. They went to Midwood together. I don't know that I ever actually met Ann, but she was always so nice and caring on the phone.
