Edward Ferguson Obituary

Edward Kent Ferguson

Edward Kent Ferguson passed away on March 8, 2026. He was born May 17, 1951, in Powell, Wyoming to John W. and Mary Ellen Ness Ferguson. He joined brothers Robert, Lynn and sister Sally Labay.

He grew up in Powell, Wyoming in a close extended family that loved the outdoor life of camping, hiking and especially fishing and trips to Yellowstone. Edward was an excellent fisherman.

His father worked for Amoco Oil which meant the family moved many times. As a result, he grew up in Meeteetse, Wyoming, Kenai, Alaska and Glendive, Montana.

Edward graduated high school in 1971 from Glendive High School and received a four-year, National Science Foundation scholarship. He then attended the University of Wyoming and earned a degree in Physics and Engineering in 1975.

After his college graduation he went to work for Schlumberger as a seismic engineer working offshore in New Orleans and Lafayette, Louisiana and Houston, Texas. He worked for Schlumberger for 39 years until he retired.

He was married to Barbara Begnaud in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 21, 1981.

After spending many years living between League City, TX and New Orleans, LA, in 2009 Ed, along with his bride, moved once more to settle and ultimately retire in Kingwood, Texas.

Ed's schedule with Schlumberger was not always the easiest with many offshore rig excursions. But when not "deployed" to The Gulf rigs, he was certain to make the most of it. Ed lived a wonderful home life often taking memorable trips-if he and Barbara wanted to go skiing, it was Switzerland! Venezuela they went! Charter a deep-sea fishing trip–Jamaica Mon!

Never was his generosity more on display when it came to seeing that his children and grand-children graduated college with wonderful educations. Ed was adamant that all 7, finish school and finish what they started! His love and generosity to family, friends, and strangers was without limits. His kindness and wisdom were infectious and pushed all who knew him to strive to be better.

If you were one of the fortunate to have known Ed, you were better for it. He had a heart that required every inch of his 6'4" frame to hold. The world has truly lost one of the good guys.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, his brother Lynn and sister Sally Labay. He is survived by his step- children Tina, Frankie, and Dominic; grandchildren Dominic II, Alyssa, Olivia, and Angelina; his brother Robert (Larae) Ferguson, sister-in-law Linda Ferguson and cousins Patricia Wolfe, Lois (John) Ramirez, Earl (Phyllis Claudson) and Rita Claudson.

Cremation has taken place.
