John Carlisle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Darst Funeral Home on Mar. 10, 2026.
John (Jack) Dyer Carlisle, Jr., 76, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on March 5, 2026.

Jack was born on June 16, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to John and Beth Carlisle. He graduated from Milby High School in January 1968 and served in the Air Force Reserves from 1969 to 1975.

At a young age, Jack started as an elevator mechanic's apprentice and worked his way up to management. This allowed him to travel all over the U.S. before retiring. Full-time retirement was not for him, and he spent the last few years as the regional vice president of an elevator consulting firm until fully retiring in 2021.

He was handy around the house, where he spent his time outside, ALWAYS whistling while he worked on something. He loved cars, motorcycles, and NASCAR. Every chance he got, he loved spending time with family at the beach and the lake.

Jack is survived by his wife, Sherlie Carlisle; his two children, Christopher Carlisle and wife Lorena, and Deanna Wright and husband Jim; 5 grandchildren, Joseph Carlisle, Marilu Carlisle, James Carlisle, Lauren Carlisle, and June Dean and spouse Pathy; and his brother Mitchell Carlisle.

A memorial service will be held on March 21 at 1 p.m. at Darst Funeral Home, 796 Russell Palmer Rd., Kingwood. Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
