Cathryn Muller Obituary

Peacefully went to the Lord on July 29, 2016. She was 98. Her husband of 65 years, and her two sons were at her bedside.

Cathryn was born and enjoyed her childhood in the beautiful countryside of the North Carolina Piedmont.

In World War II, she was employed by the Navy as "Miss Betty Wave" a model for a series of recruiting posters and films. After the war she became a Conover Model in New York City, while completing her studies in the Dramatic Arts. It was at that period that she met and married Henry J. Muller, Jr. then a lieutenant colonel in the Regular Army.

For the next 21 years she served with her husband in a series of assignments in the United States and abroad. She accepted with enthusiasm and fulfilled with grace the proverbial role as the fully committed Army Wife. In addition to participating in the customary post activities, she taught classes to military wives in customs and traditions of the Army, interior decorating and fashion modeling.

She studied Spanish with her husband in the Army Language School in Monterey, and subsequently accompanied him on three diplomatic assignments in El Salvador, Panama and Argentina.

Upon retirement, the Mullers elected to return to Santa Barbara, where General Muller lived as a boy and where she had stayed with their children during his service in Korea and Vietnam. She soon became active in a number of community service support organizations. She was a member of the Birnam Wood Golf Club and served for a period as the Entertainment Chairwoman. She was a licensed interior decorator and operated her own business in Montecito as "Cathey Muller Interiors".

She is survived by her husband, retired Brigadier General Henry J. Muller, Jr. and her sons, Henry J. Muller III and Robert A. Muller.

Cathryn was a loving and beloved wife and mother. She upheld with credit the proud traditions of the American Army Wife.

There will be a private service for the family.

Welch-Ryce-Haider is entrusted with the arrangements.
