My sincerest sympathies to the entire DeVito family. I will never forget Vito's constant smile and words of encouragement no matter what the situation during our freshman year. He loved being with us and helping to mold us into good men. God bless you Vito. Thank you for the time you gave to me as a coach, mentor and friend.

My family LOVED your father. During Yale football season, my Dad always had a caring or funny Vito story. Your father made everyone he spoke to feel special. I hope he knew how special he was. I enjoyed working with him when we were both at Amity. So full of life, laughter, and love is how we will remember your father.

Coach Devito was the best. There'll never be another one like him. He was a man's ma. He was loved by many and never asked for anything back. I am proud to have known him. He always was outgoing and knowledgeable. God Speed Coach !

Mr. DeVito was a nice man and a great coach. He made going to the games a pleasure. I graduated in 1969 and he made my 4 years high school fun.

I got to know Vito a bit after he left Law and was at Foran. Terrific man who was very honest and a terrific coach. A Connecticut legend in sports has moved on. RIP Vito. We love you.

Very fond memories of Vito from gym class at Foran High. He had such energy and excitement. He was so happy to be teaching sports and fitness to us. A staple at Foran High. Unforgettable.

Vito was a very important person to me ---not only my HS Coach in football and baseball at Jonathan Law High but also a very important mentor who helped me believe I could become a successful student/athlete at Yale Univ where I would later play football under Carm Cozza---he was a coach whom players came to love and this feeling deepened as years passed and you could then even more deeply appreciate what he had done for you as you aged in wisdom and knowledge ----Vito and Carm were very important to me , almost as important as my own immediate family itself ---Vito will be in my prayers for a long time to come -----John Kerecz

Dick Gagliardi and I had many wonderful memories of Vito at SVS Hockey Schools. All staff and campers loved Vito. Vito kept a TV in the dressing room at the rink. My son Joe was in the dressing room the day that President Nixon resigned. Vito told Joe, don't go out on the ice yet and miss this - History is being made. Joe said he never forgot it. On weekends at SVS Vito roomed with our Camp Photographer, Sabby Frinzi and they were a wonderful pair. So many good memories. Plus I lived in San Diego and in 1948 & 1949, I went to the Padre baseball games - how incredible that when I came to CT. Vito told me he was playing in those years and I probably saw him. I was in the 9th grade in 1949. I loved Mary too - who could not love Mary. What a wonderful team Mary and Vito were. I was so sorry to hear about your loss. Most sincere condolences to your entire family. I plan to forward this to Seb LaSpina. Manon Gagliardi

September, 1961 my high school class began at the brand new Jonathan Law High School in Milford, CT. Mr. Vito DeVito was the boys football coach. That team won the first championship for a sports team at the new school! Coach DeVito was known by all. However, after reading his Legacy many may not know or have known his accomplished and interesting life that touched so many other lives. What a guy! Rest easy, Coach DeVito. You've earned it!

One day, out of the blue, fellow I had known for more than 20 years, asked me: Being from Conn. did you ever know Vito DeVito,a guy I played minor league ball with? I proceeded to tell him what a great guy Vito was. I knew him best as freshman coach at Yale but then when he initiated the football program at Law and in two years turned it into a power. Last time I saw him he was taking tickets at NABF Regional tournament at Quigley Stadium. Just as friendly and as nice as ever. Reading about his amazing career: Did he ever sleep. From a great group of athletes who grew up in Stamford in the 40s, DeVito, Lou and Andy Robustelli and Carmine Tosches.
