I knew James when we were teenagers. James was a friend of the Talismen, my first band. I gave him a bass guitar lesson once in his backyard. I think it was his first. Boy, did he go far with his love for music or what! I have so many of his songs in my computer, which I treasure. I miss seeing him on my trips back to New Haven, and sitting in with his band. He made me feel like I was the only person that mattered when we talked.

Hard to believe 6 years has past since James passing! Opened a e-mail titled “Remembering James...” truth be told, I’ll never forget him! Seeing a lone sparrow on a wire or hedge always brings be a memory of James. Looking forward to seeing you again on the other side!

Just found out, living a long way away.
I knew James twice. First as a childhood fellow adventurer on geology trips with his father Bill. I was enthusiastic. James endured. We both frequently threw up as a result of Bill's driving habit: rhythmic acceleration and braking.
I moved away. Later in life I spent more time in New Haven attending to my mother Libby. James was a close friend of hers, the Prices, and Mary Weigand. The generational difference seemed not to matter at all and enriched all their lives.

James was the brother of my college roommate Al Wimsatt, but James was an unforgettable man in his own right, a great loss to all of us, but particularly for Nancy. 30 minutes spent with James were 30 wonderful minutes.

Dear Nancy Lee,
I am so sad to hear of your loss from my sister Sara today. James was like a big brother to our brother Chris, especially during the New England Comedia days. I send you my heartfelt best wishes,

We will miss James and his influence on the local music scene. I've been seeing him play with my youngest child Jessica since she was around 4 and now soon to be 12 at the local Farmer's Market with Dick Neal and at Best Video with The Lonesome Sparrows. She would always request and he would always play for her "My Blue Boat". She has been learning guitar and clarinet in part because of him. Our deepest regrets to family and friends!

The grace of James will always stand as my notion, my benchmark of how a good man might treat others. His kindness was unparalleled and his legacy will be carried in every hum, each pint of ale and forever in the spirit of those he met. My thoughts, my love, and my dreams James. Thank you.

A pleasure and honor to have known him, even more so to have been in a band with him. He was one of the original members of Washboard Slim and the Bluelights. My fondest memory of this is how he and Ms Dee used to go back and forth singing "Down By The Riverside" (our take on Sister Rosetta Tharpe's version) - it got really gospel sometimes.
But I really cherish how he used to call me "Mando" and then changed it to "Mango." Now I live in mango country (in fact, it's mango season), and this thought pops into my head pretty often.
He was a great guy - very talented, big-hearted, and funny as all get-out.Glad to have known Nancy, too. They were so good together. He was proud of her having introduced Buffalo hot wings to the Elm City way back when, before they became so widespread. Glad to have some memories to keep him alive in my mind and heart.

Well they built the Titanic to be one of a kind, but many ships have ruled the seas
They built the Eiffel Tower to stand alone, but they could build another if they please
Taj Mahal, the pyramids of Egypt, are unique I suppose
But when they built you, brother, they broke the mold
RIP brother

The loss of James is heartbreaking. There is far too little kindness and beauty in the world and James offered both qualities up in abundance. We will all miss his gracious presence. But James will live on in our hearts, thoughts and in his music.

We have lost such an amazing and powerful light. His way of living taught each of us how to be better, and Doug and I and the crew at Replay will miss him terribly. We will honor his memory by doing what he asked of us all - treat each other well and help when we can. Peace to you, Nancy Lee. You're in our thoughts and prayers.
