Wilma Schweiss Obituary

Wilma Lorraine (Whittaker) Schweiss November 22, 1930 - October 14, 2022 Wilma Lorraine Schweiss was born to Herbert and Esther Whittaker nee McGillis on November 22nd, 1930, in Roslyn, Washington. She told of wonderful stories growing up in a small mining town in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. She told of frigid cold winters that brought snow deep enough to cover doorways, windows and driveways, but just perfect enough to bundle up in a new snowsuit, along with her sister to slide down the roadway past the Catholic Church where ultimately would marry her future husband. Wilma graduated from Roslyn-Easton High School in May of 1948. She attended Central Washington College in Ellensburg, WA then went to work for Safeco in Seattle. Wilma and her sister,

Velma attended USO dances where one day Wilma, who was the prettiest belle of the ball caught the eye of a tall, debonaire gentleman named Robert Schweiss. This meeting blossomed into a romance that eventually led them to marry at Immaculate Conception Church in Roslyn, June 26th, 1954. Within the next 16 years, Robert and Wilma were blessed with two daughters and two sons. They grieved one miscarriage. Wilma had the exceptional ability to crochet and cross stitch. She was a seamstress and loved making her own greeting cards. She was a member of the Degree of Pocahontas achieving the role of The Great Pocahontas. Wilma was incredibly caring, never wavering in her love for her husband and

children. She always put her family first, always facing challenges with flexibility, optimism, and grace. She was quiet, sensitive, humble and warm. She was a lady in every sense of the word. She was born to be a mom. With very fond memories we recall birthday parties with family and friends, festive holidays, long summertime camping trips at Fish Lake including swimming in the river, brushing teeth in scatter creek, hot cocoa and smores. There were long, dark evenings staring at the stars, hearing the crackle of the campfire while listening to Mystery Theatre or mom reading an excerpt from Where the Red Fern Grows. This was followed by a warm face wash then finally snuggling down to sleep in our sleeping bags. Wilma and Robert attended boy scouts, girl scouts, baton twirling and piano recitals. Once their children became adults, Wilma and Robert enjoyed time together by camping at Easton and Fish Lake, going on cruises (swimming with Mantas), attending concerts with the Irish Tenors and visiting family. They enjoyed bicycle races and watching Grandchildren's sporting events. Robert passed away July 8t, 2014. Although we deeply grieve Wilma's passing it is with happiness her suffering has now ended, having passed away with Alzheimer's dementia on October 14th, 2022. It pleases us to know Robert and Wilma are together again watching over their family, looking for grazing Elk, gathering of firewood and picking huckleberries. Wilma leaves daughter Robin (John) Nichols, daughter Lucille Schweiss, Robert (Melanie) Schweiss and Tom (Tara) Schweiss. She leaves Grandchildren Nathan (Jaylee) Nichols, Jerry Nichols, Robby (Kassie) Schweiss, Michael Schweiss and Mathew Schweiss. She leaves her Niece Dawn Marie (Seth), Mike (Lori) Karns as well as many other extended family members and friends. God has truly welcomed an angel into his kingdom.
