Gladys Spehner Obituary

SPEHNER Gladys (nee Hallman), June 24, 1916 - May 5, 2011, age 94 years, of Ringoes, NJ, passed away peacefully at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, on May 5, 2011 surrounded by her loving daughter Barbara Elaine Charles and her son-in-law, Robert E. Charles, Jr. A private service was held at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. To offer condolences or for more information, please visit www.holcombefisher.com. Born in Irvington, NJ and lived there and in Jersey City, NJ until her marriage to Rene L. Spehner in 1932. She was a switchboard operator for NBC for many years until retiring in 1981. Gladys was a member of the fraternal Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey for over 75 years! Gladys H. Spehner was the beloved wife of the late Rene L. Spehner, the devoted mother of Mrs. Barbara Elaine Charles, the cherished aunt of John Miller, Jr. of Alameda, CA and Dr. Randall W. Miller of Clifton, NJ and the loving cousin to Mrs. Dorothea Conrad and her son, Raymond B. Conrad of Cranford, NJ. Gladys will be remembered as a most kind, gentle and sweet woman. Her memory will sustain family and friends whose lives were graced by her love. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in her memory to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Attn: Donor Services, PO Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
