VAN ARSDEL
Fred Kenneth, Jr., 79, a longtime resident of Florida, passed away at the Viera Hospital in Melbourne, FL on May 5, 2013. Youngest child of Fred Kenneth and Thelma Scott Van Arsdel of Boonton, NJ.
Fred graduated from the Wilson School with an avid love of tennis. Fred studied at Swarthmore, before graduating from Ohio Wesleyan with BA.
In 1959 he served as a reservist in the US Army Corps, Camp Kilmer, NJ. His last duty assignment was at USA ORD ARSENAL, FRANKFORD (4404), PHILA 37, PA. He received an honorable discharge Aug. 4, 1965.
Fred married Jill Dian Douglas in 1964 in Montville, NJ. Together they had four children: Diane, Kenneth, Alison and Heather.
In 1966 Fred was hired by Pan American Airways. He flew for Pan Am for several decades before retiring as Captain.
He is survived by Diane Drew Van Arsdel-Yanker of Somerville, NJ, Kenneth Wright Van Arsdel of Larkspur, CA, Alison Margaret Van Arsdel of Chelsea, VT. and Heather Douglas Van Arsdel of Plattsburgh, NY. His proudest moments were the births of his three grandchildren: Wyatt Scott Yanker, Erin Yu-shuen Lin and Grace Eveline Van Arsdel.
Fred is also survived by his sister Elizabeth (Betty Van Arsdel) Trentlyon and her husband Robert of New York City, plus several nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his two sisters, Nancy (Van Arsdel) Campbell and Lois (Van Arsdel) Cantor.
A private celebration of Fred's life will be held in Boonton on July 27.
Fred will be missed dearly and will forever be "the king of his domain."
