He helped with the fair queens from the beginning, 1947 ? when my sister also assisted when Marilyn Thomsen was elected queen and my sister took her to Lake Geneva, where she received another award as Ruth was working two and three jobs (one at the Rivera) until she started medical school at Harvard U. Don always asked about her throughout the many years I knew him. I will never forget when he asked if Sarah could join my church school at St. Ann's and she attended until little Katie Thurow was taken from all of us. Then when Hank was active in Little League and later Sheriff, the two would get together and say who did this, who did that. He will be deeply missed but oh what a legacy he leaves behind with all the photos and writings. Weren't we all so fortunate to have known him?

I read Sarah,s article and flashed back to your Dad and Mark. I played LL baseball w/ Mark a few years and remember how your Dad put an article about my "first win" and a pic in the Sentinal!!! I played for Dick Kelley and the Cardinals that year...Playing at Sullivan Field was a big deal in the early '60's. It was your dad who took all of mine and my sister's & brother's school, church, sports, and family portraits. I don't think we ever thought there was another photographer in Woodstock! It was also cool that your dad and mine were both named Don....Memories and good thoughts for you and your families....Don Kline.

I, of course, had know "Mr. Peasley" since a I was a little girl at St. Mary's. I always thought he was so amazing and talented, and just such a nice man. The Tambone family have many "Don Peasley photos" that he took of us thru the years. What a great man who contributed so much to so many!

I've known Don since I first came to McHenry County in 1979, as a broadcast journalist in a new area under the guidance of the great Mal Bellairs. Mala had the intelligence to give me names of people I absolutely had to meet. Don Peasley was the person for Woodstock. We met over lunch and talked...well, he talked about his beloved Woodstock and the things he did that might benefit me such as his close association with McHenry County agriculture. This past summer, I had once again looked forward to emceeing the McHenry County Queen Pageant. Every time, Don was a fixture as he was the chief photographer taking wonderful pictures of the queen and her court. Before the pageant started, I sat with Don for an extended period and we just talked. I knew he would be honored that night for all of his work for the Fair. One year I asked him if he'd take a picture of me in my tux as the emcee...and he gladly did so...and then every year since he had me join the queen and court for pictures. He'd send the pictures to me as a gift. He knew I had spent the past three years writing a book and had me promise to talk to him first once I completed the book. Unfortunately a few days before our scheduled interview, he suffered a stroke and he and his fabulous staff asked me to write his column on myself and of course the book. I did the writing but I so wished I had sat down with Don because he had known me for so long that I wanted to see him smile. I enjoyed all those years he headed the Ag Day lunch between the farming community and the media. Don did us a big favor with the gathering. This was Don at his best ...always thinking of others. I will miss my friend...and I will raise a cold glass of milk to the man that leaves a wonderful legacy at the McHenry County Historical Museum.

Don has been in my family's life for many years. My mother, Betty, was a great friend of Don's and Fran's up to the end. Don took family pictures for us over 35 years ago and he has been there when I worked at the Old Courthouse Inn, Country Companies and Prudential First Real Estate. He was always there with a smile and a kind word for over the 40 years that I have known him. He was interested in my family and what I was doing. I hope that Woodstock sees fit to name a park, street, or baseball field after him. He was one fine gentleman

I first met Don in the late 1940's just after he came to Woodstock and while I was still in high school.
Almost immediately I sensed his sincerity and friendliness. After being away for seven years, I returned to Woodstock at Marian Central High School.
Don was very instrumental in his help to me and to Marian.
It was Don who introduced me to my wife, Pat. She worked for Don in Public Relations.
In all the years that followed, Don never refused a request for help.
If you followed Don's columns in the paper and his news coverage--he never was negative towards anyone. He always looked for the bright side of events and people.
More than Mr.Woodstock, he was Mr. McHenry County. If an event or a place is not named for Don, I will be greatly surprised and disappointed. Don was truly a person to be emulated.
My condolences to Mary, Mark, Chuck, Sarah and the Grandkids. You have been very lucky to have had a man like him in your life.

In the 30+ years I knew Don, he was always kind and made me feel like a friend every time I saw him, even when it was a long time between our seeing each other. I don't know anyone who loved Woodstock or McHenry County more than Don. He was a true gentleman. Peace be with you my friend.
