Donald Chapin Obituary
Donald H. Chapin, 85, of Rye, NY and Nantucket, MA, formerly of Larchmont, NY, Washington D.C. and Naples, FL, died on September 30, 2014. Loving husband for 63 years of Barbara; cherished father of Patricia O'Donnell (Chas), Stephen Chapin (Deborah), Susan Lenane (Brian), Andrea Crowley (Ed), Thomas Chapin (Betsy) and Daniel Chapin. Adored and adoring grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of 5. A CPA who graduated from Williams College and Wharton School of Business, Don had a long career as a partner at Arthur Young & Co. in its offices in New York and Stamford, CT and as its managing partner in Europe. Strongly committed to public service, he was president of the Mamaroneck School Board. In his second career, he served at the General Accounting Office as the Chief Accountant and Assistant Comptroller General. Don loved Nantucket, football, Greek philosophy, ice cream, swimming in the ocean, classic movies, blueberry pancakes, good books and more than anything else, his family. In his memory, they ask that those who knew him dip their toes in the ocean, pet a dog, laugh at a good joke, enjoy friends and family and make a contribution to the charity of their choice.

Mr. Chapin and the entire Chapin family will always hold a special place in my heart. Wonderful memories of high school days in Larchmont with Andrea at Pryor Manor Lane. The magical Christmas and New Year's celebrations in Paris with the Chapin's will always be remembered. I can picture Mr. Chapin coming home after a run looking handsome in his running suit with a baguette and newspaper under his arm!

Barbara and I send our condolences to Barbara and their wonderful progeny. As long as we all follow Don's example, he will be among us. We have great memories of Don as our host in Nantucket and someone to whom we could go for sage advice on a plethora of subjects.

Don was a dear friend, a great host especially in Nantucket, and someone to whom we all looked for sage advice on whatever issue might be confronting us!
