JOHN WISHNICK Obituary

WISHNICK--John H.,

better known to all as Jack, died peacefully on November 10, 2018 shortly after his 96th birthday. A long time resident of Scarsdale, NY, he was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Price Wishnick. He is survived by his three children, Linda Markowitz, Laura Arnold, and Robert Wishnick (Karla), five grandchildren, Lisa Grand Roberts (Adam), Benjamin Markowitz (Kristi), Kacey Arnold, Aaron Wishnick and Miriam Wishnick, and four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held November 13 at Westchester Reform Temple. Jack was a gregarious and generous man who loved to talk to everyone and give out two dollar bills. He named himself "Two Dollar Jack". For many years he had a winter residence in Tucson, Arizona where they also called him the Canyon King. Jack was a WWII Veteran pilot of the Army Air Corps and loved flying most of his life. He had a degree from the University of Oklahoma in petroleum engineering which he obtained on the GI bill. He worked for his family business, Witco Chemical Company until striking it out on his own with his WWII buddy in Crowell Designs, a marine electronic business located in Pt. Pleasant, NJ. When he sold it to Zane Industries, his largest competitor, he started a "retirement" business, an antique auto museum in Wall, NJ where he exhibited and sold antique cars, always a passion of his. He was a very charitable person, giving to everyone from the dishwasher in a restaurant to the first Reform Jewish temple in Jerusalem, Har_El, Temple Israel of New Rochelle, and Congregation B'nai Yisrael in Armonk, NY. Among other charitable deeds, he sent many people to school who could not otherwise afford it. His passions in life were his family, his dog, Killer, and vehicles of every kind. In fact he was at a car auction in 2005 when he had a massive stroke which paralyzed him. Since then he led a quiet life. Nonetheless, he was a force to be reckoned with and he will be missed by all whose lives he touched with his exuberance and generosity. Donate to your favorite charity or to the American Heart Association in his honor.

We remember Uncle Jack every Shabbat when we sing the blessing over wine, with his emphasis on "BO-rei".

I met Jack through my wife, who worked at the 'Canyon R', I worked on his home in Tucson and I believe we became friends, he also encouraged me to go back to school. I have also beneffited from his generosity. Although I have to take exception, he promised me he would live to be 100 years old. Repose, my friend! Robert.

Thank you Grandpa Jack for the love you have given me and to our entire family throughout our life. Your generosity, humor, and love for life are unmatched. I have so many wonderful memories that I will cherish and pass on to my children. You had a long and wonderful life and I am so thankful that I got to be a part of that. I will miss you forever! There are many things I will always remember about my Uncle Jack. Swimming in the pool at the house in Scarsdale, New Years Day spent with him and Aunt Phyllis watching football in the den, the big Passover Seders he'd officiate at, and for helping to teach me how to drive a stick shift. But the thing I'll miss most about him is his wit and infectious laugh.

I treasure my many happy memories of time spent with my Uncle Jack. The world is a much poorer place without him.

once upon a time I took care of Jack I remember his sense of humour and am saddened by your loss but i know that he had as great zest for life.
Incidentally, He told me to never the spend the 2$ bill and I keep it securely in my desk at work
