Gertrude and I became friends in 1970 when my husband was to go to Tehran with his company. She was my orientation committee, my friend and advisor. A wonderful cook, she was a most generous hostess. She saw to it that I learned some language, saw many fascinating things and, revolution notwithstanding, came away with a deep fondness for those times and that wonderful woman.

What I remember most about Aunt Gertrude was that she paid attention to what I was saying and was always interested in what I had to say. She was so good when she came to visit me in Michigan. She came with her sister Betty, my mother. Aunt Gertrude made Kaitlyn feel so very special because she listened to what she had to say even though Kaitlyn was still a very young girl. I was not a very good niece in keeping contact with Aunt Gertrude, but she was often in my thoughts. I last saw her when she was in Michigan and was visiting a friend in the Detroit area. The friend invited me to dinner with everyone and I got to visit with Aunt Gertrude then and get caught up on all the news at that time. Aunt Gertrude was very good to my mother too when she was sick. She spent many days and hours of her time with my mother and I greatly appreciate the time and caring that she gave. Aunt Gertrude was a very good person and I feel very priviledged to have known her!!! Now I need to make the effort to get to know her daughter Susie. I guess that would be the best remembrance for Aunt Gertrude that I could make. My thoughts are with you! Patty
