John Price Obituary

PRICE--Dr. John B., Jr.

Dr. Craig R. Smith and the Department of Surgery at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons deeply mourn and regret the passing of our esteemed colleague, Dr. John B. Price, Jr. He joined the Columbia faculty after graduating from the residency program in 1961 and retired in 1992 as Professor Emeritus of Surgery. Dr. Price was highly respected as a scholar, mentor, scientist and humanitarian. His research interests focused on liver function and portal hypertension. He loved music and played the oboe in a quartet at Presbyterian Hospital. He was a strong supporter of the John Jones Surgical Society and will be remembered by colleagues and former students as a caring, soft-spoken gentleman, and a patient teacher with a sharp, dry wit. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kenneth A. Forde MD Junior Faculty Research Fund. Please make checks payable to: Trustees of Columbia University. On the memo line write: Forde Junior Faculty, IMO JB Price. Mail check to: Department of Surgery, c/o Trisha J. Hargaden, 21 Audubon Ave., 2nd Floor, Room 209, New York, NY 10032.
