How is it possible that John has been gone for 10 years? Tab and I think of you often, always with laughter and affection. Love to Nancy, Andrew, Amity, and all of your grandchildren.

If John were here during the pandemic, I suspect that he would be Zooming up a storm, and figuring out a way to virtually sail. He would make sheltering-in-place an entertaining adventure. There will never be another like John. We miss you dear friend. Cheers to you!

Tab and I had the honor of attending John and Nancy's 50th wedding anniversary party. It was on a beautiful summer's day and we took a magical sail around New York harbor. Seeing the love that John and Nancy shared, while at the same time knowing that John wasn't well, was both inspiring and heartbreaking. Surrounded by so many friends and family celebrating their love, is a memory that I will always treasure. Being part of the extended honorary Eills family has added so much joy to my life. I've loved this family for almost 40 years and even though John is no longer with us, he is always in my heart.

Dear Nancy, Andrew And Amity,

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I only met John briefly over the Christmas holidays when Anna and I were in NYC. I liked him from the first.

Anna had told me that John holds a special place in her heart. After our delightful visit with both you, Nancy, and John, it was easy for me to see why she feels as she does.

Warmest regards,

Struan Robertson

John Eills is the only person I know who called me by my full name--Mary Theadosia. It gave me great pleasure to hear it. He knew me as a child--Mary--and as an adult--Thea and was one of the few who could put those two together. I will miss him.

John Eills is on the very "short list" of exceptional people I have known.
His biography confirms he had few limitations. I'm sure all who knew him will greatly miss him.

Andrew - I have always loved listening to stories about your father. I am so sorry for your loss.

John had been so kind with me when he and Nancy invited at his home in Princeton in July, 1981. I was an unruly teenager at that time, and i'd just landed in the US. But John's heart -and humor- was so great! I understand why he and my father had remained such close friends over the years (nearly 60 yrs iirc).

Dear John I'll never forget you.

Love to Nancy, Andrew, Amity, and all family.

A sailing craft on a vast ocean with a large swell; bright sun and strong wind; a crew of family and friends who are at once thrilled and tired, hungry and happy. And there is John Eills perched on the aft rail shooting the noon sun with his sextant.

Setting the course
Steering his ship safely home
A life well lived.

Love to Nancy, Andrew, Amity, Caitlin and all the kids

Curious, interested, enthusiastic, adventuresome. John embodied these qualities and he had an uncanny ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. To say that life with John was never dull, would be an understatement. He lead a life that few of us would dare to dream, and his spirit will live on in our hearts and in our memories. Sending lots of love to Nancy, Andrew, Caitlin, Amity and the children lucky enough to call John "Papasan."

John's son Andrew and daughter-in-law Caitlin have been wonderful friends to me and to my family. It was always a pleasure to visit with John when he spent time with them in Concord. We too will miss him and we send our prayers and love to Nancy, Amity and Andrew's family.

i didn't know John well. but some of the personal traits i love most about his son Andrew, my brother-in-law -- including great humor, intellect and a passion for the sea and stars -- clearly developed naturally through his father. Sending prayers and love from the west coast to Nancy, Amity, Andrew and the extended Eills family.

Thank you, Mr. Eills, for your great sportsmanship, humor and generosity. I will always remember how much fun we all had at dinner that night. You defined dignity, honor, and valour. May God continue to bless you in His light.
