MARK CITRON Obituary

CITRON--Mark B., 61 of Montclair, New Jersey, died peacefully Sunday morning, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. A consummate fighter, Mark was immensely driven and goal-oriented, qualities he applied to all he did in life. Responsible for the approval of numerous cutting-edge medical devices, Mark devoted his life and career to advocating for the improved health of others. A graduate of UMass Amhert and Wagner College, Mark spent over 30 years working in the medical device industry, at the FDA, Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Myers Squibb, Genzyme, Biomimetics, and most recently TYRX. Throughout the decades, Mark developed both state of the art products as well as life-long friendships. A stickler for detail, Mark was known lovingly at home as the 'Inspector General' and employed his considerable investigatory skills for matters both big and small. A man with a grand sense of humor, he was a lover of movies, music, and pinball - he approached life with an endless enthusiasm, hence he had no need for a bucket list. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Barbara Friedman, his cherished children, Rachel and Andrew, his devoted brothers Richard (Karen) and Jim (Nancy), and his adored mother-in-law Dorothy Lang to whom he never failed to wish Good Shabbas. Funeral at Temple Ner Tamid, Bloomfield, NJ on Tuesday, June 28th, at 11am.

Barbara, my memories of Mark will never fade. It was so lovely to be in contact with him all these years in the challenging and rewarding medical device world, which he loved, as you know, from the 80's at CDRH throughout his varied and interesting career. I am very grateful for this and miss him terribly.

My condolences to Mark's family. Mark and I worked together in Device Evaluation at FDA. I saw him now and then at meetings where we had long talks about work and family issues. I had great respect for his opinions and counsel. I'll miss him.

To my wonderful high school friend Barbara and family - I am so, so sorry about Mark's death. I'm really glad my family and I had the chance to meet and get to know Mark when you lived in our town in Massachusetts for a year. I hope you know how many of us are out here thinking of all of you and sharing our sorrow, concern, and love for you.

My condolences to Mark's family. Mark was one of the nicest and most competent guys I ever met. (We worked together in medical device development.) He was extremely intelligent, truly detail oriented and went out of his way to offer his professional help whenever he could. In my opinion he was one of the most competent regulatory professionals in the whole medical device industry, where he will be missed. I will miss his laugh, and his great sense of humor.

I don't believe we have met as our family have only been members of Ner Tamid for a few years. I wanted to share my sympathy and extend our condolences with Mark's passing. I lost my sister Ellen from brain cancer six years ago when she was 61, so I feel deeply for what Mark and your family have been faced with and are now facing. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and wish you peace.
