SIDNEY W. ROSEN

ROSEN--Sidney W, 95, distinguished physician of many accomplishments, passed away August 5 surrounded by loving family at his longtime home in Fall River, MA. Born Lynn, MA, Sidney is survived by devoted and adored wife Lorraine Adler Rosen, loving daughter Melanie, son-in-law Mitchell Brooks, treasured granddaughter Gillian, nephew Sandor, brothers Leslie, Richard; pre-deceased sisters Lois Grossman and Winnifred Moller. A graduate of University of Massachusetts Amherst and Middlesex University Medical School in 1943, gastroenterology fellow at Lahey Clinic, Massachusetts Governor of American College of Gastroenterology 1982-86; Sid served his community faithfully, dedicating marvelous diagnostic skills and thoughtful care to his practice. He published numerous JAMA articles, served Charlton Memorial Hospital as Chief of Staff and Medical Director 1985-88, Utilization Director 1966-88, member Massachusetts Board of Utilization Review for BC/BS and many more A US Navy Medical Corps veteran of WWII and Korean Wars, serving on the Howard Gilmore, at the American Naval Hospital Panama, as Commander at Chelsea Naval Hospital. Attended Roger Williams University Law School, received an MPH from Harvard School of Public Health and opened Health Benefit Reviews, a patient advocacy service. Recent work was devoted to research and blogging about carcinogenic bacterium, Helicobacter Pylori, its role in causing cancers and development of Alzheimer's disease, which he fervently hopes will lead to prevention and ultimate eradication. A natural and wonderful athlete, Sid ran college cross country, was an ROTC Calvalry member, an early skier, avid sailor and winning racer of Rhodes19 and J24 class, and loved golf. A passionate expert of the American Revolution. Sid was devoted to friends, family and to humanity; his sensitive and gentle kindness, engaging and mild manner, keen intelligence and unfailingly magnificent medical advice will be eternally missed.
