THOMAS GOCKE

GOCKE--T. Marmaduke, MD (1924-2021). On March 21st, Duke Gocke, devoted husband and father of 70 years to his wife, Ila Mae, and their children, Jeff, Sara, Mark, Anne (Templeton) and Mary, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at age 96. Duke was born in 1924 in Piedmont, West Virginia to his parents, Robert and Mary and raised in Green Bay, WI. He is predeceased his brothers, Robert and Paul, and Robert's wife Jerry. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in 1947 at age 23 which began a stellar career in academia and clinical care in infectious diseases (trained by Harvard's Dr. Maxwell Finland) in the inner cities of New York and New Jersey and eventually in private practice in Jupiter, FL. In addition to Ila Mae and his children, he is survived by 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 11 nieces and nephews and Paul's wife, Lynn. His body has been donated to University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he will be giving his final anatomy lesson.
