JANE PERKINS Obituary

PERKINS--Jane Howard, (Mrs. Albert Carson Perkins). Born December 27, 1912. Died October 13, 2011. Daughter of Roy Wilson Howard and Margaret Rohe Howard. Sister of Jack R. Howard. Wife of Capt. Albert Carson Perkins, USN (Ret.). Mother of Anthony Carson Perkins, Timothy Howard Perkins, and Jennifer Perkins. Aunt of Pamela Howard and Michael B. Howard. Grandmother of Roy Howard Perkins, Mary Jane Perkins (Kissel), Elizabeth Perkins, Sierra R. Perkins, Chandra V. Perkins, and Tabitha S. Perkins. Great- grandmother of Roy Howard Perkins, Jr., John Perkins Muja, Sofia Rose Muja, James Timothy Kissel, Brian Earl Kissel, and Andrew Joseph Kissel. She was born and raised in New York City. Attended Spence School, Rosemary Hall, and graduated cum laude from Radcliffe College. Studied archaeology at Radcliffe (Harvard) and participated in early excavations at Chichen Itza. Working for the Honolulu Advertiser in the late 1930's, she traveled to the Far East on Pan Am's maiden trans-Pacific clipper flight, where she interviewed Mme. Chang Kai-Shek and gave an eyewitness account of the Japanese bombing of China. Lived for many years in Rome, Italy with her husband of 38 years, Cy, after he retired from the Navy, returning to live on Long Island and finally settling in Manhattan after his death. At the end she was surrounded by family and friends and died peacefully in her sleep.
