EMILE CHARLAP Obituary

CHARLAP--Emile.

Dear husband of Diane, Emile fought to live for several weeks until he succumbed on Sunday, March 22. Born in Brooklyn to Grace nd Siegmund Charlap on April 27, 1918. He was devoted to his music contracting and copying office and loved playing trumpet. Besides his wife, he leaves many adoring nieces and nephews. Brother, Teddy predeceased him. Emile Charlap was so helpful to me. I must have done over 60 movie recordings and many commercials for him. He was a great leader and an enthusiastic musician!

When I heard Emile Charlap play the trumpet, at his 60th birthday party, I told him I didn't know he played and asked him how good he was. He told me "I was just good enough that if I had been a little better, I would have been a complete failure in life." I have used that wisdom countless times in my life.

Diane, we are all here for you. And please tell him to look up my mother up there - she'll keep him out of trouble for you.

Much love,
Peter Hamm

I don't know where to begin here. "UncleEmil" has always been a great man to me. I have always loved his sense of humor, his love of music and love of the arts. I always looked up to him, how he was able to fully commit himself to every activity in his life, whether it is his career, his trumpet playing, his home on Fire Island, or anything else.

We will all miss him dearly.

I'm attaching a photo of the family from 1997 (Grandma Ruby's 80th birthday party) that has us all together and looking really good. This photo hangs on my wall at home and this is how I will remember Uncle Emile.

Diane
I just learned of Emile's passing.Marissa and I will miss him . I remember his magnificent ability to put musical notes on paper, play his instrument and help others make music. We both are right around the corner if you need anything. I mean that.

Dear Diane,
Emile was and is an Unforgettable Player in my Life experience... I worked with and for him for so many wonderful years of musical abundance! Clearly, Emile has taken the Coda of a Much Greater Musical Score... and I will continue to Honor him in the Music Whenever and Wherever I hear It... His Song Sings On, in my Heart and in my Soul...

Emile was so good to me. It is a pleasure to have played with him on Wednesdays for almost 30 years. May he rest in peace.

AH, friend. We're sorry to let you go - You touched the lives and brought joy to so many, Emile stories will live on as we bring to mind your off beat humor and welcoming smile and greetings at both homes. Tilling in your Garden of Weedin' was your other passion and of late, supervising Diane on - well that list is endless! Your life was Pitch Perfect and thousands and thousands of musicians thank you for the gigs. Ziggy must have been lonely - and now you are together. What a huge legacy! Your puns were fun from a sharp mind - you were never to be flat. We'll miss you ol' man: Karen Kee and Brooke Trent
