There are people in your life that you treasure and are grateful for their friendship Shel Seidler was a mentor to me and stayed a friend for many years. I didn't see him often but he was a person who was a good influence on my life and always encouraged and believed in my talent. He was a talented, kind person and had a great laugh. He love art skiing boating and all of life. Miss him and will always remember him

Uncle Sheldon to me. Although we weren't related, the Seidler home was a second home to me growing up. Heidi was my best friend and only 8 houses separated us on Hewlett Avenue. Sheldon and Sandy filled there home with interesting and artful things they collected. I loved being around their eclectic collection. I know it influenced me on so many ways. It was many many years later that my interests in art led me to the field of graphic design. Funny to learn that was Sheldon's profession all along. I was lucky to have remained close to both Sheldon and Sandy. He was a true artist with a true artist's spirit. His graphic design work was award winning and his personal artwork beautiful. His spirit lives on in his beautiful daughters and their children. He will be missed!!

The first and only time I went waterskiing was at the urging, and with the help, of Cousin Sheldon. At a family meeting at his house on the water in Merrick, LI in the early 70's Shel took a group of us out on his boat. I had absolutely no experience but on the second go around Sheldon had me up on the skis. It was exhilarating and I never forgot it. Thank you Shel.

I feel for you. I was about to call Shel which I do every so often. I am sick with the news that I cannot do this. We saw
each other, we talked about old times and made fun new times. I cannot believe that I cant do this. My heart is broken. It is not true that he will always be there. What a horrible loss of a bright piece of sunshine. I know people say this often but Shel really was one of a kind. I adored him.

I met your Shel many years ago when I was a student at Fashion Institute of Technology. He hired me for an a summer internship and then asked me to
illustrate a head for one of his poster designs which went on to win a AIGA award. He taught me alot and gave me that wonderful opportunity. He was a great mentor and friend and a sensitive and talented designer. From time to time over the years I stayed in touch and occasionally bumped into him in New York on his boat house or once in Aspen while skiing. When you are young sometimes there are people you meet who make an impression on you and they become one of the special people in your life. He was that for me.
I gave Shel on of my life drawing sketches which he liked and kept. After not seeing him for many years and losing touch I looked him up
out of curiosity on facebook and then contacted him and met him in New York for a lunch. He still had the life drawing in his home. I am sorry I didn't stay more in touch as my own life was in a bit of turmoil then. Now that things are calmer in my life I thought about him and wondered if I should try to connect again so I am sad that I didn't follow this instinct sooner. He was a real innovator and liked life and had a generous creative spirit and a wisdom and an ability to see the truth in things that made him special. He had that twinkle in his eye and delight in what was beautiful
and human in life. He one of the people in your life that made a difference in how you see the world
I will miss him and never forget him
and hope that his artwork and talent
can still be seen.

We were lucky to meet Shel during trying circumstances...The Black Out caused by Super Storm Sandy. We found our way by different paths to a welcoming, well lit, little restaurant bar in mid-town and that night a lasting friendship was born.
Many delightful adventures followed always with good conversation and humor, not the least of which was an outing to a baseball game at Coney Island where the Chinese driver demanded a precise numerical address for the amusement Park which set off a hilarious scramble with cell phone technology to satisfy the grumpy chauffeur.
We will definitely miss this eye-twinkling, fun-loving, bon vivant. He certainly made our lives much richer and a helluva lot more fun!
PS we like this picture of him.He had good hats.

Shel was a wonderful friend and we shared many good times back in the day." He was also an advisor of sorts, passing along his knowledge about the graphic design world, New York, and life in general. He had a youthful spirit and a true love of life. I will miss him forever -- especially the laughs we had whenever we were together.
My condolences to you, Elana and Heidi. He always spoke of you with great love.
