MICHAEL LACHER Obituary

LACHER--Michael,

75, on April 1, 2016. Beloved husband of Judith (nee) Weller. Father of Mark Tennenbaum, Andrew R. Tennenbaum and Nicholas Lacher. Grandfather of Christopher and Frederick Tennenbaum. Brother of Susan Weintraub and brother-in-law of Joseph. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Michael graduated from Stuyvesant High School, Hunter College and Brooklyn Law School. He spent his early years working for United States Senators Kenneth B. Keating and Jacob K. Javits, and rose to Legislative Counsel to New York City Mayor John V. Lindsay. Michael was an international Corporate Lawyer for 50+ years and a partner at Eaton and Van Winkle LLP in New York City. For the last decade, Michael was a leading legal advocate in Holocaust art recovery. Michael was known to all as the ultimate raconteur, loyal friend and loving husband and father. And, it doesn't get any better than that. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Southern Poverty Law Center or the ASPCA. Funeral Service Tuesday, 11:00am at Frank E. Campbell (at 81st St.) Interment to follow.

Today, a note fell out of my files and in it was a delivery my company Rent An Event did back in the early 80's to Michael at 1000 Park Aven.. to sing "Younger than Springtime" by a gorilla, i think it was ordered by Wendy Levy.. i thought that i would google to see who this person was and am honored to find out what an intelligent and caring man he was. I hope my Gorilla cheered him that day.. May his memory be for a blessing!

We were all children together and the years have passed too quickly. In my minds eye, Michael is still only 18 years old since that is probably the last time I saw him. He passed too early but in my heart and mind he is forever young. My deepest condolences to your entire family.

Dear Judy,You may remember me ,we had a very joyful diner together with Michael in New-York some year ago.I had the great honor to know Michael since 1978 when we met at a gathering of international lawyers.Since that date we met when he was in Paris for lunch or diner and to catch up with our last news :his family,my family.
He was such a knowledgeble person ,so enthousiastic on telling stories with such a great humor. We worked together on some cases. We had a common friend we both cherished :Samuel Pisar.
It is an immense sadness that overwhelmed me when I learnt that Michael will no longer be with us although he will always remain in our heart. With all my sincere condoleance .

Dear Judy, I don't know if you remember me but I worked with Michael in the 1970s and I remember Michael to be one of the most sensitive and caring people I have ever worked with. I have many happy memories of all of us working together and him running to one court or another to fight the big battle. He will always have a place in my heart and it saddens me that he is no longer with us. Fran Weinstein (Florida)

Dear Judy, Nicolas, Mark and Andrew,
We are shocked and saddened to hear of Michael's death.
We have known Michael since our youth, having met at Suvretta House in St. Moritz on a sports course. Ever since then, he and Hans-Jürg have shared in many sports together such as skiing and sailing in Switzerland. Later Nicholas spent a whole summer with us in Solothurn and we have many good memories of this time.
We send you our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy at this sad time.

Michael, I know you can hear us. So many good times and terrific memories - even the ones where you 'bailed out' your good friend (dare I say "brother"), Sid. Not only did you fill your cup, all the way, but because of you, so many of us learned how to fill ours. You know, you will be with us, always.
Judith, Nicholas, Andrew and Mark; sending much love.

Dear Judy, Mark, Andrew and Nicholas,

We are saddened at the news of Michael's passing. Through my law school years, I had the unique privilege - and advantage - of working as Michael's law student intern in his real world classroom, and Alice and I the pleasure of being invited into your office family. Michael was my first and most important legal mentor. To this day almost four decades later, what I know about being an "advocate" for my clients, forcefully, clearly and unapologetically presenting and securing their positions, I learned from Michael.

He was unique. He will be missed.

Love,
Richard & Alice Adelman

My cousin Michael Lacher helped shape my life and lifted my spirits through hard times. Because of him, I went to law school and had a career that I loved. Because of him, I found strength to persevere and overcome obstacles. He was a role-model, a friend, treasured family who gave so much to so many people. Paul and I send our heartfelt condolences to Judy, Mark, Andrew, Nicholas, Susan and Joe in the wake of this terrible loss.

Michael belongs to this category of person who marks your life forever. Working with him these last three years was a privilege and a great pleasure. I learnt a lot. Thank you Michael. I will never forget you. My thoughts are with your son (of who you were so proud) and your wife (of who you were talking a lot of with love).

We are so saddened and shocked by Michael's sudden death. And of course, so sorry that it has been so long since we've seen him or spoken to him. But we do treasure fond memories of him, especially of his great sense of humor, and his articulateness and eloquence whenever he spoke or wrote. Sending love and all best wishes - we will see you Tuesday. Love, cousins Barbara and Graham

I am saddened to hear of Michael's death. We lived 1/2 block apart as kids, and I knew his parents and sister well. We went to elementary school together (PS 179), Montauk Junior High School together (where we were in the same class for 2 years), and Stuyvesant HS together. Michael and I diverged at the college level -- he went to Hunter College and I went to Brooklyn College, but we remained good friends for many years after that. We spent 10 days vacationing in St. Thomas in 1965, and Michael attended my wedding in 1967. I always thought he was going to be a dentist, but he became an attorney. I'm sorry we didn't keep in touch, although we probably lived for the past 40 years no more than 1 mile away from each other. Rest in peace. I will miss you.

Dear Judy and Nicholas-

What a shock and unexpected end to a life so well led. The last thing Michael emailed to me the day he died was , we'll speak ( he was helping me with a legal issue) over the weekend , this was not a lobotomy, I have my mind.

He lived life fully, adoring both of you. He was always intellectually engaged, passionate and quick witted, he will be missed by so many.

I am grateful we recently reconnected after a lengthy hiatus.

My deepest condolences to all of you,

Wendy Levey
