DAVID SIEGEL Obituary

SIEGEL--David, Educator, Publisher, Radio Buff. David Siegel, 84, passed away on September 20, 2016. Born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Grace (Perfit) and Irving Siegel, grew up in the Bronx and attended NYU, earning a BS and MA in Education and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Administration. Following a two year stint in the US Air Force as a lieutenant, he began a 38-year career in education, advancing from teaching social studies to high school principal to Superintendent of Schools in Ticonderoga, NY and then in Croton-Harmon School District, retiring after 16 years of distinguished service, which earned national honors for two of its schools under his leadership and awarded him a Fullbright Scholarship to Brazil. In 1992 Siegel married Susan Stetson and the couple created Book Hunter Press, a business that was born from Siegel's life time of reading, his love of books and love of book collecting. The company has published seven different regional guides to used book dealers throughout the United States and Canada, establishing the couple as the premier experts in the field. The couple also made an appearance on C-Span's Book TV program. Siegel is also known by collectors of "Old Time Radio" as having one of the largest audio collections in the country. Author and coauthor of numerous books and articles about radio and editor of a collection of radio scripts, often contributing sound bites to both Hollywood and TV movies and documentaries. Siegel is survived by his wife of 24 years, Susan; his two children from an earlier marriage to the former Phyllis Edelman, son Edward Siegel and daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Robert Caso; and grandchildren Jessica, Gabriella and Daniel Caso.
