1918 - 2018

TWEEDY--Joan L. The Wildlife Conservation Society is saddened by the death of Joan L. Tweedy, who along with her family, has been a vital benefactor of our conservation, scientific research, and capital initiatives. Joan served WCS for many decades - most recently since 2006 as a Life Trustee - and was a true inspiration to us all. She passionately strove to protect wildlife, particularly South American species, and drove forth the renaissance of the Bronx Zoo through her support of exhibits such as Madagascar! and Congo Gorilla Forest. Her generous endowments to care for our animals and provide key scientific positions, including the Joan L Tweedy Chair in Conservation Strategy, ensure her legacy lives on. We are honored to recognize Joan across our organization - from the Bronx Zoo's Giraffe Savannah and animal hospital, to our conservation efforts in Argentina. We extend our sincere condolences to Joan's family, especially to her children Philip Livingston, Patricia Livingston, Robert Livingston, and Millie Livingston.
