SHEILA ROBBINS Obituary

ROBBINS--Sheila Johnson. The Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies mourns the death of Sheila Johnson Robbins. She was one of FAPE's greatest ambassadors and played an integral role in the growth and success of our organization as a devoted and trusted Board member since 2011. The enormity of her contributions went well beyond the boardroom. She contributed a Betty Woodman wall sculpture for the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, and generously donated to FAPE's largest project at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, as well as the Louise Bourgeois installation at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Sheila set a high standard of excellence that FAPE can only strive to uphold in the incredible void left after her passing. We send our deepest sympathy to her family. Sheila was a force, one to admire, emulate and love! She worked tirelessly for the cause of Holocaust education and memorialization, and brought together Jews and Christians alike in this work as an advocate, facilitator, philanthropist and community healer. We came to know her late in life, and are sad that we did not know her earlier, but so grateful for the time that we did share in DC, NYC and Latvia. She was a stunningly beautiful woman, full of grace and elegance. I know that she cared deeply for her family and extended members too. Our condolences to them, especially her partner and our dear friend George Schwalb. Sincerely, Wendy Lower, Claremont CA and Alex Mauch, Vienna Austria

Sheila was my mentor as well as my friend. She was a moral compass and an inspiration both personally and professionally. She had an inordinate sense of decency and honesty, as well as an energy and enthusiasm that were truly exceptional. She was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.

I had the privilege of knowing Sheila for almost 45 years. As a young woman, coming into the extended family by marriage, I was treated with kindness and made to feel welcome. Sheila took me around NY as I prepared for my wedding day and made me feel like a princess. Each time our family grew she rejoiced and loved when they called her Aunt Sheila! Our family is so lucky to have had so much time with this extraordinary woman! My sincerest condolences to Peter, Marjorie, Ann and all the other family who will dearly miss her presence. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
