Ruth Birgit Mathison, a cherished and beloved member of her community, passed away on February 26, 2026, at the age of 80 in Heritage Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Born on November 26, 1945, in Kristiansund, Norway, Ruth was the daughter of the late Arnt and Johanne (Skaarer) Monge. Her early life was grounded in the values of family and faith, which would carry her through the years.
Ruth graduated from Fort Hamilton High School and embraced the role of a homemaker with grace and dedication. She found joy in crafting and reading, often losing herself in a good book or creating beautifully crafted pieces that delighted those around her. A born-again Christian, her faith was a cornerstone of her life, influencing her actions and relationships with those she loved.
Ruth was the loving wife of the late Rolf Lyng Mathison, who preceded her in death in 2024. Together, they shared a life filled with love and mutual respect, a testament to their enduring bond.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristina, who is married to Brian Cosgrove of Hempstead, TX. Ruth's legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Hanna, Collin, Jakob, Molly, Lukas, and Finn, as well as her cherished great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Clark, and Evelyn. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Arnt Monge, who will hold dear the memories they shared.
Ruth will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, where family and friends can honor her life and the love she imparted to those around her. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Philip J. Jeffries Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. in Weatherly, Pennsylvania.
Ruth Mathison's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her—her warmth, creativity, and unyielding faith leaving an indelible mark on her family and community.
