I was very saddened to hear of Sandy's passing. She and my mother Ella (of blessed memory) were very good friends. Sandy had a great sense of humor and had me in stitches on many occasions.
Rest in peace Sandy, and I send my condolences to Jeff and Jessica.

My good old friend Sandy Mayer.
I sure do miss our late night talks. We laughed and cried and reminisced about our shared memories. My enclosed photos are of two events that were important in our lives and you were there. RIP dear friend.

I will miss my "Aunt" Sandy. She was a wonderful artist, a wit, and my father deeply appreciated their friendship. She lovingly gave us some of her art, and I relish the memories of speaking with her about art. My earliest memory: myself, being seven or eight. We all met in the Greek diner on the ground-floor of my grandfather's apartment building in front of Columbus Circle. Aunt Sandy kindly played Tic-tac-toe with me on a paper place mat. She was always wonderfully full of wit and conversation, and I will miss her.

A few years ago, when my mom was still well enough to travel to my house regularly, she brought with her a photograph of herself. She said "this is the picture of me that I want published with my obituary in The New York Times."
As it is, in all likelihood, the very last thing I shall ever do for her, it is my honor to fulfill this final request: her chosen photo and a carefully written obituary displayed in perpetuity on the Times website.
If you feel so inspired, please write something she might enjoy reading on her page.
I hope you like it, mom.

She was a brilliant woman. As I relfelct on the conversations with her, both as a young whipper snapper, rightly admonished, and more recently consulting her on an important work of art, I find I will truly miss her. RIP.
