Fred Stout Obituary

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. Fred Arthur Stout III, 57, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Jan. 30, 2010, at his residence following a three-year battle with cancer.

He was born March 12, 1952, to Fred and Kathlene Stout of Odessa, Texas. Growing up, Art was an outstanding student, athlete and musician who received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy upon graduation from Odessa High School in 1970. After two years at the Academy, he moved to Arizona and earned a degree in mechanical engineering at Arizona State University. It was at ASU where he met Kim Clark of McLean, Virginia, his wife of 31 years.

In 1979, Art began his nearly 30-year career with Intel Corporation. He traveled the world for Intel, supervising construction of their chip fabrication plants in Ireland, Japan, Israel, the Philippines, China, Malaysia and in the United States (New Mexico and Arizona). In addition, Art had a passion for architecture. Using his talents he built or remodeled several of his own homes in Arizona, New Mexico, and California.

He was happiest while on his boat, or snow skiing, golfing, racing his car or just watching the ocean while sitting on his front porch in La Jolla, Calif.

Art leaves behind his wife, Kim; four sisters and their spouses, Anne and Jerry Tyre of Jacksonville, Fla., Laura and Terry Williams of Odessa. Mary Stout of Odessa, and Noell and Mark Ince of Gonzales, Texas; as well as seven nieces and nephews.

In a private service Art's ashes will be scattered in the ocean he loved.

To this day, I often think about Fred. When I graduated from OHS, that was the last time I saw him. Fred was a brilliant man, skillful in so many areas of life. Fred was competitive, which made him so successful in his working life, etc. The older I get, my friends mean so much more to me! I was so blessed to know Fred! Also, the Stout Family was an amazing bunch! All so intelligent, and so loving! May God bless Fred and the entire family!

Kim, Anne, Laura, Mary and Noell and all of your family-- my prayers are with each of you during this time of grief. Fred was a part of my entire growing up in Odessa and as part of the OHS band family. He was so talented and fun! His smile made so many of us smile. His successes as an adult are not surprising. It was a blessing to have called him my friend.

Laura and Family,
Sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I remember his warm, friendly demeanor and sense of humor (always used appropriately). He was definitely a lot like his big sister, Laura....smart, independent, a risk-taker, and always fun to be with. May God continuously remind you of the great moments you had with him...and may you always remember that the "faith you carry will one day carry you."

Laura I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Fred as a great "kid" who loved to pester us when we were using the pool but always so sweet.

I am saddened to learn of Fred's death. Fred and I were roommates at the Naval Academy and studied aerospace engineering together. We also went on the same "Youngster Cruise" aboard the USS Juneau, LPD 10, in the summer of 1971. I remember standing by Fred, in formation,as we manned the rail entering Sydney Harbor. My last contact with Fred was during a visit to Boulder, CO when he gave me a tour of campus. Fred was a wonderful and very popular person. My condolences to the family of such a great guy.

The news of Fred's death is so shocking and sad. I have lost touch with him such that I didn't even know he was sick. He was an important part of my young life, and will always be remembered fondly. Smart, talented, charming--he had it all. Kim and family, my heart goes out to you.

I am so shocked and saddened with the news of Fred's death. I have not seen Fred since high school, sadly. He was a wonderful person, friend, and outstanding trombone player with the OHS Band (Bill Dean). I had such respect for Fred, his dad whom I visited with often while in HS, and the entire Stout family. My thoughts and prayers are with Fred and his family. Jack Nall
