Fred Gentsch Obituary

FAIRLAWN ChapelFred Harry Gentsch

Fred Harry Gentsch, 82, passed away May 21, 2009. He died peacefully at home with his family, and his wife of 60 years, Muriel, at his side.

Fred was born in Bronx, New York, September 27, 1926, to Dora Senftleben, and Fritz Albert Gentsch. He graduated, 1949, from the College of Engineering at New York University with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.

Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944, where he served as an Ordinance Mate 3rd Class on PBY Catalinas during World War II. After the war, he continued in the reserves where he was commissioned Ensign. He resigned from the reserves Lieutenant Junior Grade. After Fred's service in the U.S. Navy, he was employed as a sales engineer and sales manager for various companies from 1949 to 1963. He started a manufacturer's representative company July, 1963 to present time. Fred served his community for more than 32 years as a member, President, and Served on the Board of Directors, of the Northwest Summit Rotary Club, formally Bath Rotary Club. He was also a board member of the Bath Pony Club and a parent assistant for the Boy Scout troops 385, and 395.

Preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Dora; he is survived by his loving wife, Muriel; sons, Christopher (Marjory), Theodore, Geoffrey (Abigail); daughters, Gretchen Gentsch, Heidi (Wayne) Fisher; grandchildren, Aditi, Gabriel, Tracy, Jonathan, Julia, Stephen, Daniel, Alexander; great-granddaughter, Shenoa; and many other loving relatives and friends here locally and in Germany.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday at the Bath Church, United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron 44333 with Rev. Mark W. Frey and Rev. James Cunningham officiating. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. If desired, memorials may be made to the Bath Church, United Church of Christ.
