I remember how excited you always were for Santa. Today Ali was just as excited and happy. I only wish you could see your happy little girl. She reminds me so much of you - she even paces when she talks on the phone. I still shed tears and miss you so much. I hope you are in a safe and happy place and we will see you one day. Love ya. Mom

To the Cotner Family and Friends,
I am the little sister of Brian Sheehan and i met Jamie when i was in 7th grade. He was always a lot of fun and just a joyful soul. Jamie was a great friend to my brother and never minded hanging around his lil' sister. I have been told what a wonderful father he was. Brian has more stories than I think he will ever be able to tell. I am so sorry for your loss and feel for how much you must be hurting. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To all who knew and loved Jamie my prayers and love goes out to all of you in this time. After reading this guestbook this morning the tears welled up and the memories of jamie appeared more vivid. He was a good friend after my car accident and kept my spirits up and me laughing even though my mouth was wired shut. I remember riding to the carnies in your moms old mustang and the many nights with all of the gang at the drive in the many great get togethers at wibles. To you my old friend you will be missed.

To the Cotner family,
We have been praying for the good lord to give all of you his love, and the strength to somehow get through this terrible tragedy.
James was a good friend of ours for many years. He was a kind and loyal friend to everybody! He kept us all laughing and in good spirits!
James loved life, and he always had a load of fun in all his adventures!
Perhaps ,we all might find some minor comfort in knowing that he "lived" more in the 36 years he was with us,than some people do thier whole life!
We will all miss him dearly, but he will live forever in the thousands of wonderful memories he left us with.
May god bless you in the times to come!

Uncle Jamie,
I miss you a lot. I wish you were here to play chess and go dirtbike riding. I'm glad you taught me how to play soccer, use the computer, play games, work stuff, fix stuff and how to be nice and kind to others. I made a build-a-bear the day you died and I gave it a yellow hard hat, a belt with tools and a silver dog tag. I even named it Jamie and I will keep it all my life. Once again, I miss you a lot and wish you were with me. I had a great time staying up with you all night. I'm so glad you showed me many things about Star Wars and I love it a lot. You were a very great uncle and I'm glad you came to live with me. It was nice of you to teach me how to ride a dirtbike and ride with me. I'm so happy I had a great uncle like you. And finally, I miss you a lot. I love you.
Love, Cody

Remember
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Cotner family,
As we have grown to know and love Jamie over the past 15 yrs we have gained so many memories, that we don't know where to begin to express how he touched our lives. We cherished every moment Spent with him and his memory will live with us forever.
He was a great father to Ali, a great brother, a great son and to us the best friend anyone could ask for. We believe everyone who knew Jamie was truly blessed to have " The Cotner" as he called himself, in their lives. There was never a problem we had that he did not have the answer to and the time to lend a hand to anyone. So to The Cotner until we meet again " How' m I doing? "
We love ya always and to the Family Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I'll remember Jamie as a loving father and uncle, and as a good friend. He was always quick to offer help, weather it was getting me discounts on Tykes toys for my kids (Thanks, Buddy), or battling in a mosh pit in the old days (Thanks, again, Buddy). I am thankful for all of the good times we had together and I will miss him.

Dear Virg, Karen and Chrystal,
We are so deeply saddened by the loss of Jamie. I can only imagine the pain you must be going through at this time. There are no words that can make this any easier, but please know that we care, and we love all of you. We are praying that God will hold you close and comfort you with the many happy memories you have collected.
Jamie was a good father to Ali, and a loving uncle to Cody too. They will never forget him. He will live on in all our memories.
Jamie definitely loved his family and friends and made the most of his time on earth. Grandpa Cotner told us each to "live life to the fullest" and Jamie certainly did that. He did so much to help others, and he gained a lot of friends during his lifetime.
Jamie has brought us joy, made us laugh, and given us the blessing of happy memories. We are both remembering with you, and sharing your sorrow.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Virgil, Karen and Crystal,
My family and I are very sorry for your loss. James was one of the best friends I ever had, even though we had lost touch in the last few years I thought of him and Ali often. One of the things I will remember most is a few months before Ali and Nathan were born we were installing carpet in the nursery's. All he could talk about was how happy he was to become a father and the excitement that he expressed that whole day, I will never forget. He was a good father and I know he loved his baby very much. One of the first words to come out of Nicholas' mouth was "Cotner Rules". So to James I say, Cotner Rules. We love you.

To Karen, Virgil, and Chrystal: My family’s hearts and prayers are with you in this awful time. While I am shocked and saddened to lose a personal friend in Jamie, I grieve even more for the loving family he has left behind.
Jamie’s personal legacy with me with me will be my love of the outdoor sports. He became my first shooting buddy plinking in his parent’s back yard over 15 years ago. I even remember his grandfather being there the first time I shot a .30-06 at the pop can. I still wished I would have bet Jamie on hitting with a .357mag the gallon jugs on the other side of the creek. In my mind, I will always associate the .41mag with Jamie.
I have 20 years of memories of Jamie, none of them boring or uneventful. He had such an active and dynamic personality that his presence guaranteed to add excitement to any situation. There will be plenty of Jamie stories for us to share for many years!
Yet for all those stories, nothing will detract from what he ultimately was: a faithful son, an adoring father, a devoted brother and uncle, and a rock-solid friend to count on.
Goodbye Jamie, may God bless your soul.

Our deepest condolences to all of you. We have grew so close to your family since moving in across the street four years ago. I'll never forget the first time I met Jamie... I thought... "Is he crazy!?" as I shrugged my shoulders and laughed. He always was one to give me a hard time-just to get a spark out of me. Deep down, we were true friends. Ali is always welcomed into our home as she has always been. We will be there for her!! This loss has come as a shock to all of us, and I know you are hurt and grieving. Jamie was one of the most handy people I know. He never hesitated to help in any way. It didn't matter what it was you needed or when you needed it, somehow he'd always find or make the time to help. He will be greatly missed.
