John Codrea Obituary

John N. Codrea of Marco Island, Florida passed away at the age of 91 on June 20, 2012 after a long illness.

Born on December 7, 1920 in Akron, Ohio, he graduated from Garfield High School, and the University of Akron where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

During World War II, he served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps and participated in the invasion of Guam. After the war, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Akron Marine Reserve company, and was honorably discharged from the Marine Reserves in 1957 with the rank of Captain.

John was an incredible husband and father, and his family was his greatest source of pride. He was a voracious reader with tremendous intellectual curiosity. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed playing and officiating baseball, basketball, football, table tennis and golf.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Aneta (nee Budea) Codrea; his brother, George, and his sister, Eugenia. He is survived by his loving and steadfast wife of 65 years, Mary (nee Morrison), his son, John E. Codrea (Judy), daughter, Mary Elizabeth Codrea; son, David N. Codrea (Maureen) son, Robert W. Codrea (Sara), daughter, Carolyn E. Sunday (Edmund), and grandsons, David, John Leo, Nicholas, Eli, and Zachary.

A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to: Presentation of Our Lord Orthodox Church, 3365 Ridgewood Road, Fairlawn, OH. 44333 or the Three-Deuce-Five Marine Foundation, 45 Milford Dr., Ste. 12, Hudson, OH. 44236. Dear Mary and family:

I am so sorry to learn of John's passing. I knew he was ailing, but had hoped he would overcome his illness. I am so sorry for your loss. You were married for so long and seemed so happy together. I was always so amazed at how active you and John both were.

I hope to see you down on Marco when you come to visit. I really would like to get a chance to get a Scrabble game with you.

Please be aware all your friends at the Mirage are thinking of you.

Dear Codrea family,
Although I did not know John for very long, I loved him very much. He was a great man. I had many great moments with him.
My favorite memory was a few weeks ago, I went in his room one morning and he was already awake. I walked in and said "hi, John". He smiled and said "Hi, sweetie". I said "I love you, John" and he said "I love you more". I will never forget that smile.
I feel lucky that I had a chance to know know him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all <3
