Robert H. Hamlin Obituary
April 2, 1923 - June 1, 2012

MEDINA, Ohio -- Robert H. Hamlin, age 89, passed away on June 1 2012 in Medina, Ohio from Leukemia.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beate; his son, Andrew and wife Janie; and his grandchildren, Sean and Jeremy.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1923, the son of Howard and Margaret Hamlin, he graduated with honors in 1940 from Upper Arlington High School in Columbus, Ohio at which time he embarked on a search for knowledge and a distinguished career that would take him around the world working with many influential people and organizations.

He held degrees from Ohio State (A.B), Northwestern University (M.D.), Harvard School of Public Health (MPH), and the Harvard School of Law (J.D).

His career spanned 62 years as a professor at Harvard, Assistant to the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare, Public Health Consultant, UNESCO Delegate, and Founder of the School of Public Health at the University of South Florida. He took pride in working on public health systems and educational programs around the world to improve the health of all people regardless of their nationalities, religious beliefs, and political affiliations.

Robert Hamlin leaves a great legacy in education, public health, community service, philanthropy, and friendship to others. He was always looking to help out the professional and educational development of people that crossed his path. However, the greatest legacy he leaves is his family who will miss his guidance, wisdom and love.

The Hamlin family has requested that those wishing to honor Dr. Hamlin's memory make a tax-deductible donation to the Meredith Conservation Commission's Hamlin Memorial Fund. These donations will be used to help maintain the 320 acre Hamlin Conservation Area. Checks should be made payable to the Meredith Conservation Commission, with "Hamlin Conservation Area" written on the memo or subject line. These checks should be sent to Meredith Conservation Commission, Town of Meredith, 41 Main Street, Meredith NH 03253.
