Roger Williams Obituary
Roger was born in Tom's Creek, Va., on February 3, 1944. He moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1954 and met his future wife, Carole Scott, while attending Crouse Elementary. Roger went to Buchtel High School and exceeded at basketball, football and baseball, becoming Buchtel's first African-American quarterback. Roger married Carole in 1963 and the couple proudly raised two children. As an adult, Roger's athletic skills and competitive spirit combined to make him an all-star PBA bowler. In 2009, his exceptional 35-year bowling career was acknowledged when he was inducted in the Tri-County Bowling Hall of Fame. Having always had a strong work ethic, Roger was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 26 years and Bico Akron for 17 years, prior to retiring in 2008.
Roger is survived by his mother, Kathleen (Juanita) Archie of Akron; sons, Anthony (Crystal) of Akron and Brian (Cynthia) of North Canton; granddaughters Desirae Bowen Williams and Cianna Williams; special brother and cousin, Frank Carson; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011, at noon at Sommerville Funeral Home, 1695 Diagonal Road, Akron, Ohio 44320, Pastor Richard Bennett officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Peace Cemetery immediately following the service. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at 1020 Emma Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44302.

I was there in spirit today. After leaving Akron, I would always make sure I either stopped by or spent the night at Aunt Carole's & Uncle Rogers house when I came to town. I will miss that. They both treated me like a princess always; then when I had Jasmine it seemed to revive them whenever we visited. They really made sure we always were made to feel so special. I loved them I & will always cherish the memories. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. Lean not to thine own understanding. In all things acknowledge him and he will lead and direct thy path. Tony Brian you know you guys mean the world to me and the fond memories of your dad while I was growing up was a great inspiration to me as well as others.
