Patrick Spano Obituary

Patrick John Spano

Patrick John Spano, age 88, of Ravenna, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014.

Pat was born April 30, 1925, in the same home that he resided for most of his life in Ravenna, to parents, Bruno and Mary Stella (DiGregorio) Spano.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Pat was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Parish, and also a member of the Kent Elks Lodge, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus.

Patrick is survived by his son, Jon Michael Spano; his brothers, Pete Spano and John Spano; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Spano in 1997, and Eileen Spano, Patrick's wife and companion of 16 years who passed away in 2000. He was also preceded by his siblings, Philomena, Frances, Rosemary, Samuel, Dominick, Mary "Dolly", and Elizabeth.

Patrick was a nature lover who preferred small towns and walks in the woods to the hustle and bustle of the city. He enjoyed traveling to Amish country in central Ohio, as well as Cape Hatteras, N.C., Orlando, Fla., Provincetown, Mass., and several spots along Lake Michigan. Patrick was a talented artist and studied art at Kent State University.

In his later years, Patrick enjoyed the camaraderie of his many peers at McDonalds, where talk of cars, sports, politics, Ohio nostalgia, and local gossip passed the time.

Friends will be received Monday, March 24, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend William Kraynak at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St., Ravenna. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Akron Children's Hospital.
