Margaret "Peggy" Sue Reed

Margaret (Peggy) Sue Reed, 56, passed away December 23rd at Pebble Creek nursing home after a hard-fought battle with a rare squamous cell cancer of the sinus cavity. She was a lifelong Springfield area resident who graduated from Springfield High School in 1982. Soon after she got her barbers license at the Akron Barber College, and became the owner/operator of the Arlington Barber Shop. She had several loyal customers that she loved dearly, who helped and supported her for many years. She donated services in nursing homes and sponsored activities. In her spare time she got her skydiving license and was always willing to throw you out of a perfectly good airplane. She was an Ohio state record holder in formation flight with other women skydivers and trained with the United States Parachute Team. She met many lifelong friends through AerOhio who helped transport her to surgery appointments out of state including Angels Flight East, Mike, Dennis, Joe, Leslie, Karen, Lisa, and Sherry. Peggy was an organizer of the Arlington Neighborhood Association and their contributions to the Hurricane Harvey relief project. The family is grateful to all the neighborhood association members, especially Sue, who helped her feel safe at home and at work. Peggy was otherwise strong, proficient with fire arms, a gourmet cook, and she loved her garden from which she canned enough to feed a militia. She was a political activist and glass artist, leading to her friendship with Judy, who put up the go fund me page. Special thanks to Judy and the go fund me donors. Thanks to all at Pebble Creek and Akron General for working so hard, it is so much appreciated during this pandemic. Peggy was preceded in death by parents, James and Marcia Reed; sisters, Janet and Marcia; and sisters-in-laws, Judy and Robin. She is survived by sisters, Madeline and Janie (Mark); and brothers, George, James and Paul, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Cremation has taken place. The family will host a celebration of Peggy's life for friends, customers, and neighbors, on May 11, 2021, in her garden, from 4 to 8 p.m. Blue skies Peggy! We will love you forever.
