I had the privilege of meeting Paul while he was having a sport fishing boat built at Jim Smith boats. He would come in the shop and talk to everyone while the boat was being built. I recall him telling me how he started out with just a few Lincoln town cars. After the launch of the boat he threw a viewing party fully catered for us all to come see the boat. He walked around that night in wading jacket full of pockets and said Joe I´ve been looking for you handed me an envelope and thanked me for the work I did on the boat. I opened the envelope after I left the marina and there was one thousand dollars cash in it. As a young man I was amazed of his generosity, I think I figured there was close to 30 employees lives he´d touched that night. Thanks for making us feel included in one of your dreams. God bless you and your family.

Thanks for the remembrance! Remembering all the great times with Paul and Cora Mears is great! My parents, grandparents, brother, Greg, and Jimbo have all passed. However, I still remember the great times we spent together along with Paul, Jr and John Mears. Love to all!

My earliest memories of the Means family go back to the junior high days. I used to ride my scooter over after school at Robert E. Lee and “hang out” with Greg and friends from Cherokee. My most recent and vivid memories of Mr. Mears are the stories we used to swap at the University Club barbershop. He was a kind man with a great sense of humor. I know that he will be missed.

I worked for Mears for a total 10 years and had the pleasure of driving Mr.& Mrs Mears to there home in the Mountains every spring and then, went back in the fall and pick them up and drove them back. Then they both became ill and could not make the trip.
Mr. Mears always told me the story's of the old days when he first started out in the business. How it all began. He was quite a man. He alway wanted to know how the business was going and my opinion.
I'd like to offer my deepest sympathy to his family. He was a highly respected person in the Orlando Community, and will be missed by all.

I've known Paul Mears since my earliest recollection. His wife Cora was my friend. I grew up with their four kids with Greg being my age. I shall never forget Paul,Sr, and I thank the Mears for being such close friends to my parents and grandparents. My best wishes go to the three sons that remain, Paul,Jr., Jimbo, and John. Their kids along with Greg's have helped to make the Mears name known throughout Florida. My mom, Mary Jo Davis, also sends her love to all the family.

I have known Paul since the 1930s when our family lived on Lake Lancaster near him. We occasionally used his property to put our boat into the lake as his lot had a gentle slope. I again knew Paul in the 1970s when we had a condo near each other in New Smyrna Beach. At that time I asked him if my memory was correct that the taxi fare from downtown Orlando to anywhere in Orlando was 25 cents. He said you are wrong it was originally 15 cents. Paul was a good man and will be missed by the community.
