Leo Miller Obituary

Leo Miller 1932-2019

Leo passed away on June 7th after losing his battle with Cancer. He was a loving father and grandfather and a tremendous role model to many young adults in his community of College Park. He is survived by his two children Lynn Pacansky and Mitch Miller of Orlando and his four grandchildren Cori Kelly, Jacob Pacansky, Sarah Anne Corbett and Wade Miller.

Leo was born in Sumner, Iowa the second youngest of 11 Siblings. He moved to Central Florida in 1956 after he received his Honorable Discharge from the USAF. He began working for the City of Orlando in the Recreation Department. He was the P.E. coach for both Princeton and Lake Silver Elementary schools and helped shape the minds of many College Park Children. He was involved in the College Park Little League and Coached the Blue Bird Basketball and Football teams for youth in the 60's and early 70's as well as the Pony and Colt Baseball teams. He was playground director for after school and summer programs for as many as 19 playgrounds for the city and surrounding areas. As the City of Orlando Athletic Supervisor he was also instrumental in structuring the Central Florida softball programs and leagues for the City and surrounding areas. At one time there were as many as 2000 ASA registered Softball teams in Central Florida which were all under his command as ASA commissioner.

He was a big influence in Senior softball for over 35 years starting leagues at Lake Fairview and eventually the Seminole County complex. The Wednesday league in Seminole County will now be named the "Leo Miller Senior Softball Memorial League" . He ended his playing career at the young age of 72.

Leo was a family friend through my Dad who serverd our great country with Leo in the USAF. They became life long friends even after he moved back to Wisconsin after the service. We always kept in touch and visited often over the years. He is still missed very much and we still feel for Mitch, Lynn and their families great loss.

In my 70th year, somehow Leo's name came to mind from my childhood. Leo was my brother's baseball supervisor in the 1960's. I'm amazed to hear about all he was involved in.

I remember Leo was organized and very pleasant interacting with people. And his wife (I believe her name was Chris or Kris) was so sweet, too.

Our thoughts are with the family.

REST IN PEACE! Yesterday I worked softball at Lake Fairview, where I hadn't worked in many years, and Leo was in my thoughts. Those were great times.

In May of 1979, Leo Miller interviewed me for the position of part-time secretary in the Athletic Department at the Orlando Recreation Department. He said since I was a softball junkie, I would be a perfect fit. I will forever cherish my time working there alongside the fellas (Leo, Neil and Lee) and I will forever remember Leo coming in every morning, bracing himself in the doorway and getting the update on all the softball games and staff reports for all the fields. He always wanted to be prepared for the flood of incoming phone calls for the day. He was a good leader and communicator, and a pleasure to work with. He will be remembered always. Rest in Peace Leo.

Leo Miller was one of the finest gentlemen
I've ever met. He spent his entire life enriching the lives of others. From coaching
numerous youngsters to building outstanding
programs for seniors. He never quit helping
people enjoy life. Thousands of folks in Orlando owe Leo a debt of gratitude for a job well done.

My sincere condolences to his children and to the many friends he met along life's way.

So sorry to hear about Leo's passing, he worked with us in the elections office for many years. He was always very knowledgeable and willing to help wherever he was needed. His years of serve to the voters of Orange County was something he was very proud of. We will miss his smile and his kindness. It was a privilege to work with him, to call him our colleague and our friend. Rest in Peace Leo, you will be missed by all your elections office family.

Leo was one of the most caring, giving, friendly individual that I have ever met. I was involved with the youth, played softball and umpired while Leo was in charge. He was always fair, friendly, respected and loved by ALL players, umpires and fans. When he retired from the recreation department things were never the same. Now today when I hear or read about the Orlando Recreation Department Leo Miller is the first person that comes to my mind and always will.
Thanks Leo for who you were and for all that you did for others especially the kids. You will be missed by many. Everybody needs to remember that even though Leo is gone this is a CELEBRATION for Leo. Leo is now in charge of recreation again working with the Lord.
Thanks Leo
