Sybil Ford Obituary

Sybil Kirby Ford of Orlando, Florida, and Branford, Connecticut passed away peacefully on August 25, 2019. She was born June 3, 1927 in New Haven, CT. Sibyl was the daughter of the late John (Jack) and Sally Kirby. Sybil grew up in Meriden, CT and spent her summers in Pine Orchard, CT. She attended Day Prospect School in New Haven (now Hopkins) and graduated from Smith College in 1948. She had a keen business sense, having been a Mathematics major at Smith and was a Director of Lane Industries for 20 years. She had a great love for her family and enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren when they would come to visit. One of her many passions was golf. She was an excellent golfer, competing nationally throughout her life and playing until the age of 85. She also holed several holes-in-one during her days on the links. She was a long-time member of the Pine Orchard Yacht and Country Club and The Orlando Country Club. She also loved to play bridge and enjoyed many afternoons of bridge with her friends until recently. She took great pride in her flower garden and was very skilled at making stunning flower arrangements. She is survived by her daughter, Polly Carta (Stephen) of Guilford, her grandsons, Brent St. James of Orlando, FL and Chad Carta (Carey) of Pittsford, N.Y. and her granddaughter, Katherine Lindermann (Brad) of Charlotte, N.C. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Elisabeth, Henry, Abigail, and Theodore, and her sister-in-law, Janice Kirby. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra St. James, her husband, Paul Ford, and her brother, John B. Kirby, Jr.

A celebration of her life will take place later in the fall in Branford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite #4B, Southington, CT 06489 or Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
