The last brownie
Mom what are you doing, I’m making brownie’s
Why? Because I love you…
In times of grief you would reach for your cookbook.
Reading each ingredient and never taking a second look,
You always bake with pride when a family or friend was hurting inside,
Mom can a friend stay for dinner, yes you would always reply
We pulled up a chair added one more without asking why
We laughed, we ate until we emptied our plate
Mom watching us carefully like she was head of state.
Diner was done now came dessert, this was a time when we all went bezerk
The smell of fresh brownies made with mothers love
Sharing with friends and family was what mom loved
Some big some small you could just eat them all
And we did just that but left one for all
Now it’s over diner desert and fall
Soon will come Christmas and more brownies for all
But on this winter’s day our mother has left and the heaven’s have gained
I will always remember moms love as one brownie remained.

Dear Mike, Tara, Tau and Mia,
We are sorry to hear that your mom/grandma passed away...especially at this time of year. You are in our thoughts.
For Mia - my great-grandma died close to my birthday when I was in grade 4 (just like you). It made my birthday sad at first but then I think of her every year on my birthday and remember how special she was and that makes me happy.
