Dr. Batts was, hands down, was my favorite high school teacher in the early '60s. I excelled at math due entirely to his excellent teaching and the motivation he provided. He was a marvelous teacher and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Dr. Batts is what teaching should be all about. I am most grateful, to this very day, for all that he gave me, back then, in the early '60s. Dr. Batts gave me the confidence I needed to enter the engineering profession.
My sincere condolences to his family for your loss.

Les ,Marilyn,my wife and I spent time together when Batts were in Colorado for the summer. One thing he liked to do was eat and we would about weekly drive about 65 miles round trip to have a fried chicken dinner.
One thing he refused to do was drive in Denver or Greeley if either of them had appointment in either place he would do anything to get me to drive because I lived in Denver most of my life and knew the city and we would always find a place to eat which pleased him.
During my younger years i was an avid golfer and Les as other non golfers couldn't understand chasing that little ball however i knew of many times he would drive to area's in eastern Colorado 100 miles or more round trip to treasure hunt find less than ten dollars and called it great but he enjoyed it.
Les was a kind gentle person and I have missed his friendship.
Keep driving Les RIP.

Dr. Batts was a great teacher and I remember him fondly even after all these years. I had math anxiety from a bad experience with my teacher in 3rd grade and had no confidence in my ability to solve math problems due to her negative feedback. Dr. Batts provided extra help to me and I made my first "A" grade in math! I went on to do very well in all my other math classes, even in college. He gave me confidence in myself and that carried me through the rest of my life. Thank you Dr. Batts, RIP.

RIP Dr. Batts. Great memories of you at your overhead projector, including our names in your lessons if we weren't paying attention. Loved your sense of humor but I am still terrible in math.

Dr. Batts will be very missed. I have very fond memories of his classes. I was not doing well with Algebra , Dr. Batts taught the other track. The Principal of JHS at the time, allowed me to take his class. Where I did a lot better under his guidance. Sadly, they switched me back the following term to the other teacher and I suffered. The Principal made a deal, that if I took Dr. Batts class and got a B or higher, they would override the bad grade from the earlier term. Dr. Batts was wonderful, explained what happened. He was very understanding. Luckily for me, he was wonderful. My average was all A’s. On finals day, he graded each students test before dismissing us. To my surprise, I got 100%! I will forever be grateful. Thank you Dr Batts. Your technique in teaching was wonderful. I only wish I knew back then, that we shared a birthday.

Mr. Batts was my Geometry teacher at Riviera Beach High School in the early 60's. He was a much better teacher than I was a student, but I eventually passed. To his family I am sorry for your loss and I am sure everyone has many fond memories that will brighten their day. I know I do too.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. He was Mr. Batts to me and I had him for Geometry and Math Analysis at North Shore High School. I liked him and he kept math entertaining at times, but always interesting.
