Lloyd MANGUS Obituary

MANGUS, Lloyd H.

Lloyd H. Mangus, age 90, of Union Mills, IN, passed away on September 29, 2013, at his home. This country lost another one of its dwindling number of World War II Veterans. Lloyd, along with many others, was known as "the greatest generation". He was a platoon sergeant who led his men in Europe. His discharge papers thank him for his "honest and faithful service to this country". But he was also a soldier in another "Army", God's Army. He served as an "honest and faithful" follower to the God he loved and trusted. He was called Lloyd by his large family in Union Mills, but to those who knew him in later times, and other places, he was known as Magic. No matter what he was called, he was known for his integrity, his belief in the virtues of hard work, his dry sense of humor, and his love for and joy in nature. His tools never wore out because if they broke, he fixed them. Growing up in the depression, he also learned to invent whatever tools he didn't have. Lloyd was a member of Rotary Club, Liberty Bible Church, and Kairos Prison Ministry. He enjoyed playing euchre with his family and was a naturalist and a birder. His family and friends knew two things: he loved them, and they could count on his word. We will miss him. He was born in Walkerton, IN on December 13, 1922, to Charles D. and Iva Mae (Parker) Mangus. On August 20, 1983, in Lake Worth, FL, he married Penny (Dale) Mangus who survives in Union Mills, IN. Also surviving are his beloved children, Andi (Ron) Kent of Lehigh Acres, FL, Jennifer Mangus of Albany, NY; beloved step-children, Dabney Ware of Jacksonville, FL, Jack (Stephanie) Ware of Stafford, VA, Sue (Jeffery) Drake of New London, NC; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Bette Wakeman of Bradenton, FL, Bob (Jean) Mangus of Santa Barbara, CA, Lucy (Wesley) Heironimus of Union Mills, IN, Roger (Sharon) Mangus of Union Mills, IN; sisters-in-law, Patty Mangus of Union Mills, IN, Florence Mangus of Delray Beach, FL; many loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harold Mangus, Roland "Butch" Mangus, Doris Shelley; and brother-in-law, Richard Wakeman. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Union Mills, IN, with Rev. Mike Sutton and Rev. John Beehler officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kairos, Inc., 140 N. Orlando Ave, Suite 220, Winter Park, FL 32789. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.cutlerfuneralhome.com.

What a blessing getting to spend time with you my friend. You had a way like no other and helped me understand some things when I was young in my new life with Jesus. Thank You
