Robert Young Obituary

Robert Martin Young
October 13, 1950-
July 17, 2014

It is with great sadness we announce the accidental death of Bob Young, who passed away at his home in Sierra Madre on July 17. He will be greatly missed by his family: son Robert Reid Young, mother Mary Young, twin sister Carolyn, brother Donald, his fiancée Ilona Linden, and many cousins.

Bob's entire life was spent in the Arcadia-Sierra Madre area. He attended Arcadia schools, graduating from Arcadia High School in 1968. He attended the University of Southern California, was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and participated in many school activities. He graduated from the School of Engineering in 1972 with a BS degree in mechanical engineering.

He formed his own company, Robert M. Young and Associates, in 1978. Headquartered in Pasadena, he specialized in air-conditioning design for big buildings, and held engineering licenses in fifteen states as well as Spain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Singapore, and Malaysia. Over the years he designed systems for more than 50 large multi-story buildings and some 30 acute care hospitals

Bob enjoyed people and local activities. He was president of the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association for over 15 years, and was proud of the awards won by the 100% volunteer organization.

Burial will be private.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 5, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., Embassy Suites Hotel, 211 E. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA 91006.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to a charity of your choice in Bob's name or a contribution to the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association in his name will be appreciated. It is a 501C3 volunteer association. Contributions to the Rose Float Association should be sent to P. O. Box 603, Sierra Madre, CA 91025.

Just read the local paper today...an article about the upcoming Rose Parade...and the Sierra Madre float...and the fact that Bob won't be with them this year...On a professional basis...One of the finest engineers that ever walked this earth...never afraid to get dirty..
I have to admit that since I retired in 2011 I haven't kept in touch with Bob...On a personal basis...in spite of Bob's often "crazy" personality...he was a good friend...and the thought of his passing leaves an empty spot...a very empty spot.
My sincere condolences to his family, friends and the people that he worked with..

Bob I was searching for your current number and I found this. You and I had so much fun shop talking and designing the process changes to Great Western Malting with Bob Injo. I'm going to miss you brother, and I know you will brighten where ever it is that you are.
