Mary E. Bardell

1940 - 2016

Mary E. (Rumbaugh) Bardell, 76, of Shiremanstown, passed away Friday August 26, 2016, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born March 11, 1940, in Penn Township, Perry County, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Grace M. (Summy) Rumbaugh. Mary graduated as the Salutatorian of the Class of 1958 at Susquenita High School, and, later earned a degree in Business from the Central Penn Business School. On March 16, 1969, she was united in marriage with Charles N. Bardell, with whom she has shared a blessed union of over 47 years.
Following her graduation from Central Penn, she started working as a Clerk at the Credit Union League, in Harrisburg. She left her employment, after having worked her way into management, in order to raise her family. She dearly loved and was deeply committed to God, her husband, and her children. Mary was a faithful member of Philadelphia Church of God, Frederick, MD. Mary possessed a love of reading, which always led to great conversations with family and friends about current events. She enjoyed time on the family farm, the splendor of nature through the simple beauty of flowers and spending time in her garden. Always full of life, and a very generous person by nature, Mary's thoughtfulness and consideration will be remembered by her small acts of kindness, and little gifts, she provided to others without fanfare or desire for acknowledgment.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Alan W. (Jennifer) Bardell of Oklahoma, and a daughter, Teresa A. (Aaron) Benneian of Lancaster County. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jacob, William, Coleman and Abigail, as well as, her sister, Faye Rumbaugh and brother, Carl Rumbaugh, both of Duncannon. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anna Summy, and brother Ernest Rumbaugh.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at the Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High Street, Duncannon, with Pastor Victor D. Vejil, officiating. Interment will follow in Goodwill Cemetery, Bunkertown, Juniata County. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M., on Wednesday.
