Zofia Sywak Obituary
1941 - 2010
Dr. Zofia Sywak, age 68, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital on Monday, March 8th after battling a short illness.
Zofia was born in the Ukraine and emigrated to the U.S. with her family in 1950. She received her Bachelor's degree from Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut and her Master's and PhD degrees from Saint John's University, New York. After she moved to Pensacola in 2000, she became active in the Polish community and our local organizations in support of the arts.
Zofia loved music and theatre and enjoyed season tickets to the Pensacola Opera, Symphony and Little Theatre. She devoted her life to helping others and being a special friend, and she truly loved education and reading. She was a very active member of the Friends of the Pensacola Library and was a past president of that group.
Zofia was preceded in death by her parents and a younger brother, Bohdan.
Her survivors include: her brother and his wife, Roman and Maggie Sywak; niece, Amanda Sywak; and nephew, Jason Sywak.
The family extends thanks to Dr. Eldaway, Sacred Heart Medical Oncology Group and to the nurses and staff of St. Catherine's West ward, Sacred Heart Hospital, for their care of Zofia during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Friends of the Pensacola Public Library, P.O. Box 13394, Pensacola, FL 3259, and notate "In honor of Zofia Sywak."
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 23rd at 11:00 am to honor her life. Burial will be with her parents and youngest brother at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Pkwy is in charge of arrangements.

Fondest regards to Zofia's family. She talked about you folks all the time. She was a dynamo of a woman, fought for what she believed in--we will miss her at the library.
