Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died in Philadelphia at the age of 97 on June 24, 2018. Alma was born Alma Orlowitz in Philadelphia, Pa on Jan. 5, 1921, the elder daughter of Louis B. and Ida Katz Orlowitz. She was married for 57 years to Sylvan M. Cohen, a prominent Philadelphia attorney, civic leader, and philanthropist, who died in September, 2001. She is survived by her sons Marc Copland, a jazz pianist, and Stephen Cohen, a law professor, and by five grandchildren, Darius Copland, Allegra Copland, Ariana Copland, Samara Neely-Cohen, and Maxwell Neely-Cohen. Private services will be for the immediate family only. The family requests that those so inclined make a donation in Alma's memory to Jewish Voice for Peace www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org

Alma, I can´t believe it is days away from the fourth anniversary of your passing. I miss you all of the time and am consoled when I recall the fun things we did together, even when you were at Atria and Watermark.
Will see you and Sylvan at Roosevelt in August.

Just learned of Almas passing 8 months ago. She was a dear, sweet woman! My late husband Maurice and Alma shared memories of Philadelphia. She had a wonderful long life. Whenever I called her she told me she missed Santa Fe.
My sympathies to her family.

It was a year ago that Marc called to tell me his mother was in hospice; I immediately flew to Philadelphia to see her. It was miraculous: Alma was awake and alert and we spent two wonderful days talking, reminiscing and a bit of crying. I think of her daily and miss her, both talking and visiting. She will live in my heart forever.
